A trip to the Boulders Penguin Colony is a highlight of both our Beaches and Boulders (Half Day) and Cape of Great Walks (Full Day). Located along Boulders Beach, this colony is home to a remarkable population of African Penguins, the only penguin species found on the African continent (a distinction which makes this experience truly unique!)

Fun Fact: African Penguins, also known as Jackass Penguins for their distinctive braying calls, have a fascinating adaptation: They sport a dense layer of overlapping feathers that provide excellent insulation, allowing them to stay warm in chilly waters. So, in addition to their endearing name inspired by their donkey-like vocalisations, these waddling wonders have a nifty built-in thermal jacket!

Nothing beats a sunrise hike on Lion's Head - a favourite among locals for its exhilarating hike and unbeatable 360-degree views. At the summit, your guests will be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the azure Atlantic coastline, the dramatic 12 Apostles, the bustling Mother City, and the iconic Table Mountain.

Your guests will embark on an incredible half-day hike as we guide them along the 5.5 km spiral trail of Lion's Head, which offers ever-changing views with every step.
Our experienced mountain guide will discuss various route options with your guests. For those guests not comfortable with the more exposed final few metres to the summit, we are able to offer easier alternatives linking Lions Head to Signal Hill or vice versa, locally known as the Spine Track. This offers scenic walks with similar views as if from the top of Lions Head.

Your guests will be treated to our signature “trailside tea” at a scenic vantage point, where they can recharge with quintessentially South African snacks and choose from a selection of hot beverages in winter or refreshing iced tea (with ice!) in summer.
For an extra special experience, we also offer sunrise and sunset hikes.

**We strongly recommend avoiding Saturday and Sunday bookings to steer clear of the crowds of locals who use this trail for their weekend exercise. **

The India Venster trail covers a distance of approximately 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) and has an elevation gain of 700 meters (2300 feet)!

It is a hike which involves some scrambling and exposure to heights - so guests should pack a healthy dose of determination, enthusiasm, and a sense of adventure!

In terms of physical difficulty, India Venster is considered to be one of the less strenuous options on Table Mountain - However, it should not be underestimated as it includes some scrambling.

Compared to other popular routes like Kasteelspoort and Skeleton Gorge, it's less challenging, and it's also considered less demanding than Platteklip Gorge which can become a never-ending stairmaster with the lack of variety in scenic distractions.

"The Boomslang" Tree Canopy Walkway offers breathtaking views of Kirstenbosch Gardens and the mountain vistas. Inspired by a snake skeleton, this steel and timber walkway starts at ground level and extends high, curving and winding through the trees of the Arboretum.

It's merely ONE of the highlights of the Gardens to Grapes Tour.
(But there are so many of them, your guests will lose count!)

What better way to kick-start an African adventure?!

Our Beaches & Boulders Half-Day Itinerary is filled with quintessential South African experiences.

The day begins with a morning coffee at Surfers Corner in Muizenberg before a guided walk along the scenic seaside pathway to Kalk Bay. This promenade offers breathtaking views of False Bay and the colourful 19th-century Victorian bathing boxes in St. James, once used by the affluent to change into their bathing suits. For the adventurous, we dare a dip in the chilly waters of the Dalebrook tidal pool - a popular activity for the locals.

In Kalk Bay, guests can enjoy brunch at a charming local eatery, followed by a leisurely walk around the harbour to meet the local fishermen and observe the resident Cape Fur Seals. They will also have time to explore the many antique shops, locally designed clothing boutiques, and art galleries in this wonderful boho seaside town.

To wrap up the day, guests will enjoy a guided walk, away from the usual boardwalks, at the Boulders Penguin Colony. Finally, they will make their way back to Cape Town along the stunning Chapman's Peak Drive.
