A barge that was sunk by ORI to create an artificial reef. The crane structures attract many fish including coachman and batfish. On the sand, flatheads and rays can be spotted buried in the sand. Keep an eye out in the blue water, as game fish often cruise past.

It's all about the Sea anemone ~ Did you know?

Sea Anemones are named after the Anemone Flower, which is why it's known as the Flower of the Sea.

Sea anemones are grouped in the class Anthozoa, with corals. There are 6,500 species.

Sea anemones are very long-lived, reaching 60-80 years and more.

They are carnivorous and use their tentacles to catch prey. Small species feed on plankton, but larger species can catch prey as big as fish and crustaceans.

Sea anemones can reproduce sexually or asexually. Some reproduce by budding or splitting into two new individuals. In this case the two are clones. Other species are hermaphrodites producing both eggs and s***m. Sexual reproduction can occur with some species having separate sexes. In this case fertilised eggs develop into larvae, then settle on the sea bed and grow into young anemones.

It's all about the Jellyfish ~ Did you know?

When jellyfish swim in large groups, it is known as a bloom.

The biggest jellyfish ever found had a diameter of 8 feet and its tentacles were as long as half the length of a football field!

There are around four hundred dead zone areas in the oceans of the world where only jellyfish can survive and no other life form.

A single jellyfish can release as much as 45,000 eggs each day!

Box jellyfish’s sting can cause the death of the person stung within a time period of 3 minutes.

Every year, during blooms, the seas of Japan get filled with over 500 million jellyfish as large as the size of a refrigerator.

Their eggs pass through their stomach and come out of the mouth. Only the eggs that stick to female jellyfish’s mouth get fertilized.
