If you're new around here, you may not know that there are two things Hidden Africa is obsessed with: primates and treehouses.🐒🌴 So a place like Bisate Lodge could only have come from our wildest dreams. 🌟

Somewhere between the last game drive and the flight home, the post-safari comedown begins to kick in – brought on by 5 am wake-up calls and a stomach that's spent two weeks saying yes, yes and yes. We're convinced the only cure is a beach fix, and Fanjove Island exists entirely for this purpose. At least that's what we tell ourselves. 👀

There's nothing much to do here, which is rather the point. You can snorkel along ten kilometres of reef, watch a dhow drift past, or simply lie down and let the tan lines even out. Kick your feet up and relax; you've earned it! 🐒🌴

Few safari destinations come with a story like Gorongosa's. 🐒🌴

Decimated by civil war, this park has clawed its way back from near-silence to a thriving wilderness! Every sighting here carries that history with it. Lions tear across the plains after herds of antelope, wild dogs patrol the woodlands, and testy elephants trumpet at passing vehicles – animals that, not so long ago, weren't guaranteed to be here at all.

But there's one encounter here that tops them all (for us, at least). Gorongosa is home to one of the only pangolin rehabilitation centres on Earth, where you can walk alongside these shy, prehistoric little wonders. 🌟

As remote as it is luxurious, King Lewanika mixes traditional décor, hand-woven linens, quirky modern finishes, floodplain views and oh, just Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration. 👀 47,000 wildebeest and not another soul around to see it!

The Congo, or as it's affectionately known, the green heart of Africa, is an emerald paradise for primates, and primate lovers like us. 🐒🌴

It is also, without much argument, the best place on Earth to see a western lowland gorilla. This alone should be reason enough to get you on a plane. But our distant cousins are only the beginning of the long list of wild and wonderful creatures that call the Congo home. 🦍

Wander into the Congo Basin, and you get the feeling that just about anything might materialise from the green. African grey parrots, otherworldly insects, forest elephants, or if luck is in your favour, a bongo antelope, are all on the cards. From the forest floor to the canopy, it is packed to the brim with everything except the familiar.
