Wolwedans Dune Camp is the perfect tonic for frazzled city slickers, or anyone craving desert silence and a night under the stars.🌟

Just seven tents rest on the edge of a 250-metre-high sand dune in the vast Namib Desert.
Go looking for desert wildlife on a scenic drive, walk the dunes with a San Bushman guide, explore the desert on horseback or float over it all in a hot air balloon at sunrise.

Sitting on the edge of a riverbank in the little-visited west of the Serengeti, there's a certain kind of quiet you don't get further east (apart from the grumbling neighbours). 🦛

Those neighbours being a resident family of hippos, who've claimed the river as their own, and aren't shy about saying so. Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge sits right alongside them: ten gorgeous suites, each one opening onto a terrace and plunge pool with a front-row view of the action.

If safari had a dream sequence, this would be it: dusty pink walls, squishy sofas, billowing curtains and the low flicker of lantern light. All of it tucked away in a private concession on the edge of the Maasai Mara. This is Bateleur Camp 🐒🌴

Your days: tracking lions, elephants and wildebeest herds; bush walks where the giraffes watch you back; learning to spot tracks; sunrise from a hot air balloon with a Champagne bush breakfast waiting on the other side.🍾

Your evenings: a leather armchair, something ice-cold in hand, and a gramophone crackling out Mozart.🎶

If you’re as besotted with penguins as we are, we have a trip for you. Two of the world’s most beautiful destinations, two very different penguins, and one rather extraordinary journey. This trip takes you from sunny Cape Town to the bottom of the world. 🐧☀️

First stop: a few gloriously unhurried nights just outside Cape Town at the ever- so lovely Coot Club. There’s time for beach days, long lunches, lazy afternoons and, of course, a chance to meet the critically endangered African penguins — whether that’s waddling about on the beach, bobbing about in the ocean, or being cared for at a rescue centre in Gansbaai.

Then things get considerably colder. Fly south from Cape Town and, several hours later, you’ll find yourself in East Antarctica, sleeping on the ice itself and heading out into one of the most remote landscapes on Earth. The prize? A colony of thousands of emperor penguins – more than a metre tall and perfectly engineered for a life in one of the planet’s least hospitable corners. Time it right and you may even see their impossibly fluffy chicks taking their first tentative steps.

Small penguins. Giant penguins. Sunny beaches. Frozen wilderness. One trip, and quite possibly the most gloriously over-the-top penguin pilgrimage you’ll ever make.

The Makgadikgadi Pans are not exactly your standard safari scene. Think vast salt pans, otherworldly landscapes and some desert-adapted animals too.👀

If you're new around here, you may not know that there are two things Hidden Africa is obsessed with: primates and treehouses.🐒🌴 So a place like Bisate Lodge could only have come from our wildest dreams. 🌟
