The Grand Finale – A Celebration of Achievement!

Stage 5 brings the Cape Pioneer to a spectacular close. A sharp opening climb sets the tone before riders dive into a reimagined finale packed with excitement.

The iconic Chandelier section returns—with a twist—offering fun and flow to celebrate a week of grit and adventure. Jeep-track climbs and singletrack descents carry the field toward Oudtshoorn, where the race ends in a fast, high-energy dash to the finish.

The Iconic Swartberg Awaits!

Stage 4 is the Queen Stage of the Cape Pioneer—legendary, brutal, and breathtaking. From Oudtshoorn, the route heads east before turning upward toward the mighty Swartberg.

Every pedal stroke brings riders closer to its towering summit. The final 8 km is an unrelenting climb, pushing body and spirit to the limit, with the finish line nearly 2 000 m above sea level on a World Heritage site.

This is where legends are made. Jerseys may be won or lost here, but every rider who reaches the top carries the pride of conquering the Swartberg.

The Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge is a 100km off road race from UNIONDALE to KNYSNA via the Prince Alfred's Pass taking place on Sunday, 21 September 2025. The route is scenic, challenging and riders are encouraged to train sufficiently for this event in order to maximise the enjoyment of the experience.

The 2025 Entry fee is R 800.00. Entries include dinner in Uniondale. All proceeds go to the Lions of Knysna and Uniondale. Only 4500 entries will be available for the 2025 event. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The Lions Karoo to Coast welcomes MTB, Gravel and E-Bikes! With E-Bike Entries tripling in 2023, the event now offers a FREE battery swop service.

The Karoo Beckons!
Stage 3 takes riders from Louvain into the rugged heart of the Klein Karoo. Inspired by the legacy of Katot—the Pioneer’s original route founder—this stage blends history, grit, and raw beauty.

Expect fast jeep tracks, rough singletrack, and a dramatic shift in terrain as the coastal climate gives way to arid Karoo landscapes beyond water point 1. It’s a demanding day, but one where the diversity of the Pioneer truly shines.

The stage finishes in Oudtshoorn at Langenhoven Gymnasium, where riders will call home for the next couple of days.

Stage 3 is all about endurance, spirit, and embracing the wild charm of the Karoo.
