There are places to stay in Livingstone… and then there’s Taita Falcon Lodge!

Perched a whopping 230 metres above the Zambezi River, right on the edge of the spectacular Batoka Gorge, Taita has one of the most extraordinary views in Livingstone.

My favourite bit? Grab a coffee (or something colder! 🍹), settle into the viewing deck and watch the tiny rafts far below tackling the mighty Zambezi rapids.

The lodge itself is wonderfully intimate, with beautiful chalets built using local stone and reeds, private sun gardens and outdoor showers. And if you’re feeling energetic, you can hike all the way down through indigenous forest to Rapids 16 & 17 and watch the rafters considerably closer up! 🥾

It’s peaceful, a little wild, wonderfully different and still within easy reach of Victoria Falls.

Definitely one for the Zambia bucket list. 💚

Exciting news from North Luangwa! 🇿🇲

For the first time in 30 years, cheetah are back in North Luangwa National Park — and what a wonderful conservation story for Zambia.

Six cheetahs have made the journey from South Africa and are now settling into a protected 2,000-hectare area of the park, where conservation teams can carefully monitor them before their eventual release into the wider wilderness.

Each cheetah is satellite-collared, and the group was carefully selected for genetic diversity to help establish a strong, healthy population. Even better, another six are planned to join them later this year.

With only around 6,500 cheetah remaining in the wild globally, projects like this really matter.

Another exciting chapter for North Luangwa — and another reason to feel incredibly hopeful about Zambia’s wild places. 💚

✈️ TRAVELLING VIA SOUTH AFRICA? SAVE THIS! 🇿🇦

A little travel admin worth knowing before your next African adventure…

From 1 July 2026, travellers entering or leaving South Africa are required to complete a new SARS Online Traveller Declaration before travelling — whether arriving by air, land, sea or rail.

🌍 This applies to South Africans AND international visitors.
👧 Children and infants need a declaration too — parents or guardians can complete it for them.
⏰ Complete it no more than 24 hours before departure.
🧳 You’ll need your passport and travel details and will be asked about any goods or currency that need to be declared.
📱 Keep the confirmation handy on your phone!

Just transiting through South Africa? If you’re travelling by air or sea and remain inside the designated international transit area without entering South Africa, you do not need to complete one.

It’s quick, it’s online, and one less thing to think about when you know in advance!

There is so much more to Zambia than its wildlife and wild places. 🇿🇲

The Likumbi Lya Mize Ceremony is one of those extraordinary reminders that Zambia’s greatest richness lies in its people, culture and traditions.

Celebrated by the Luvale people, it is a magnificent gathering of ceremony, royal tradition, Makishi masquerades, dance, colour and storytelling — a living heritage proudly passed from one generation to the next.

This is the Zambia I love sharing with travellers. Come for the safari, absolutely… but make time for the stories, the people and the traditions too. They are every bit as unforgettable.

There are some places you arrive at and immediately think… I could stay here a while. 💙

Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island is one of them.

Set on the shores of Lake Malawi, it’s all barefoot luxury, ridiculously clear water, hidden beaches, beautiful stone-and-thatch rooms and those long, lazy days where nobody seems particularly concerned about what time it is.

One of the questions I’m asked most is, “Sarah, where should we stay in the Lower Zambezi?”

Well it depends how long you have to spare.

Chase the Moonbow at Victoria Falls!

⚽🦁 A football final to remember!

Our guests at Msandile River Lodge, South Luangwa, Zambia had front-row seats to more than just the football final…

Earlier in the day, they witnessed an unforgettable lion hunt as a pride brought down and feasted on a warthog. Then, just as everyone was absorbed in the match, the bush had one more surprise in store! Out of the darkness came a young hippo sprinting past the lodge, with two lions in hot pursuit.

It all happened in a matter of seconds, so there wasn’t time for a photograph—but it’s a wildlife encounter our guests will be talking about for years to come.

At Msandile, you never know when the next extraordinary moment will unfold. That’s the magic of Africa!
