Did you know that the beautiful Shoebill can only be found in eastern parts of Africa, from Sudan to Zambia. In Zambia, the papyrus swamps along the Lukulu River are a breeding ground for this iconic bird, and Bangweulu is one of the best places to see it in the wild.

Despite their large weight, Shoebills spend most of their time perched on floating vegetation from where they do their fishing. When attacking prey the Shoebill puts its wings out backwards in order to maintain its balance.
