African Proverb: Even though the eyebrow is smaller it is still older than the beard
Meaning: Proverbs are short wise sayings based on long experiences. They are specific to a culture but their application transcends cultures. In other words they can be applied everywhere irrespective of the country. I proverbs for many reasons. I love them mainly for their wisdom. But other another reason I love proverbs is because they help you to say a lot with few words. They also help you to put difficult thoughts into words. They can force to open closed minds and shut loud mouths. Many proverbs are actually common knowledge and yet have uncommon wisdom. And a classic example is this proverb. It’s obvious that the eyebrow, even though smaller than the beard is actually older. To a lay person that obvious and nothing to think much of. But to someone of understanding , that is heavy with wisdom. When someone was at a place before you, that person will know something you don’t know. That person may not be as rich, better looking, famous, educated, outspoken as you are, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that that person knows something vital. Don’t judge by size or appearance. Don’t don’t look down on those you come to meet. Be humble!
