Witnessing an extraordinary event which we don't have an explanation for.. we watched this Egyptian Goose on the shoreline of Lake Kariba with her gaze fixed on a nearby crocodile. After much deliberation she waded into the water and began deliberately swimming towards the Croc. Once she had caught the full attention of the crocodile she feigned injury and started flapping madly in the water. The chase was on. Several near catches and she resurface a little way off.. until she didn't. It was a tragic and sad thing to witness. We searched the area wondering if she was trying to entice the crocodile away from her chics, but nothing. Egyptian Geese mate for life.. Perhaps the crocodile had killed her mate? I guess we will never know the truth of what we witnessed this day 😞
