The Matobo Hills are home to more than 2,000 San rock paintings, which date back as far as 13,000 years. Some of the paintings depict animals, hunting scenes, and spiritual figures. One of the most famous paintings is in the "White Rhino Cave", which shows a white rhino surrounded by hunters. Another interesting fact is that the name "Matobo" comes from the Ndebele word "Matobo", which means "bald heads". This refers to the many granite boulders that dot the landscape.
