Did you know that the Udawalawe Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka, established in 1995 under the supervision of the Department of Wildlife Conservation and located on 200 acres of land bordering the National Park, is the only elephant transit home of its kind, created to maintain the abundance of elephants in the world?

Once the hunting ground of the British colonialists, Yala National Park has been a wildlife sanctuary since 1900.

This vast swath of gorgeous wilderness in southeast of Sri Lanka is home to the largest population of leopards in the world, as well as elephants, water buffaloes, sloth bears, civets and monkeys.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the park has become a huge attraction for both foreign and local visitors. It is not only the second largest park in Sri Lanka, but also the most visited.
