What will you learn on a Kenya expedition?🌍

🌱That your actions have global impact
Every project you work on is designed in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals from, reducing inequality to climate action. Learning about these goals and why we are working towards them may help global issues feel less abstract.

🤝Embracing new cultures
Living and working alongside local families immerses you into a new culture and helps you build global awareness. If you throw yourself into learning new phrases, traditional dances and trying new foods, you'll leave with friendships, memories and a perspective on the world that stays with you forever.

⚡Experiencing life outside your comfort zone
Pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone on expedition helps to develop resilience, independence and confidence. Facing new challenges and navigating new environments is a great way to aid personal growth.

On your Kenya expedition you will have the opportunity to learn all these things plus so much more, on a trip packed with adventure and impact✨

Why does real world learning stick?🌍

When you step outside the classroom and into a completely new environment, learning becomes something you experience, not just something you read or are told. Every challenge, conversation, and moment of reflection helps lessons stick in a deeper, more meaningful way.

🌍Learning through experience
Whether it’s working on community projects, navigating unfamiliar environments, or adapting to a different culture, real-world experiences help build confidence, resilience, and independence in ways that can’t always be taught in a classroom.

🤝Connection strengthens learning
From teamwork in camp to interacting with local communities, shared experiences help us grow and see the world from new perspectives. Some of the most valuable lessons come from the people around us.

🌿Being immersed helps us stay present
Without the distractions of everyday routines, there’s more space to slow down, reflect, and fully engage with the world around us. This makes learning feel more personal and memorable.

💭Reflection turns experiences into growth
Taking time to journal, talk, and think about what you’ve experienced helps transform moments into lifelong lessons and memories you carry long after expedition ends.

Expeditions aren’t just about discovering new places, they’re about discovering new perspectives, new strengths, and new ways of learning✨

How do we work towards the UN SDGs in Cambodia?🤔

We've been busy working alongside local communities in Cambodia since 2010, and in that time we have achieved so much together including:

🛠98 toilets built to improve sanitation and safety for families
💧56 wells built or restored to provide water for drinking and crop irrigation
🐔65 chicken coops built for 65 families to help provide a source of income
🌱Over 12,050 trees/saplings planted

On an expedition to Cambodia, there are so many projects you may get the chance to get stuck into. Whether you're constructing chicken coops or taking part in regeneration initiatives, there are so many opportunities to make meaningful impact.

Across all of the projects we've worked on alongside our in-country teams, student travellers, teachers and Expedition Leaders, we aim to align our Cambodia projects to the following UN SDGs:

1 - No Poverty
2 - Zero Hunger
3 - Good Health and Wellbeing
4 - Quality Education
5 - Gender Equality
6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
13 - Climate Action
14 - Life Below Water
15 - Life on Land

Joining us in Cambodia soon? We can't wait to keep working together for a more sustainable future💛

What does real world learning really look like?🌍

On a Camps expedition, learning happens everywhere. Whether you're building infrastructure for a community project or navigating life in an entirely new culture, every experience teaches you something that can't be experienced in a classroom.

Instead of just reading about habitat destruction, you could be playing your own part in protecting it through regeneration initiatives or conservation work that makes real impact🌿

This kind of hands-on learning develops more than just knowledge, it builds critical thinking, global awareness and a deeper curiosity about the world. Students often return from expedition with a completely new perspective on their studies, approaching subjects with greater enthusiasm and a real sense of why it all matters💛

How can a Camps expedition enhance your learning? 🌍📚

Going on an expedition can builds skills which continue to benefit you long after you’re back in the classroom.

Life on expedition encourages qualities like resilience, curiosity and resourcefulness as you adapt to new environments and immerse yourself in different cultures. These experiences can translate directly into school life, helping you approach challenges with confidence, ask deeper questions and engage more actively with your studies.

Research has also shown that expeditions can significantly boost confidence and independence, empowering students to contribute more in lessons and get involved in classroom discussions🙋‍♂️

Many travellers say their expedition had a lasting impact on how they learn, enriching their education in ways that textbooks alone can’t. Real-world experiences play a powerful role in sparking curiosity and developing a genuine love for learning💛

Did you know that more than 7 million households in Kenya rely on livestock farming? 🐄

As climate change makes traditional cash crops less predictable, many families are turning to livestock as a more dependable source of income.

But the same challenges are making farming harder than ever. Shrinking grasslands, reduced water supplies, and increasingly unpredictable weather are putting pressure on both people and their animals🌍

In Kenya, these issues directly impact livelihoods, food security, and community resilience.

Through practical, community-led solutions, we’re working to support both farmers and animals:

- Livestock deworming helps animals stay healthy, improving meat and milk production while supporting sustainable incomes.

- Elephant deterrent fencing protects crops and livelihoods, reducing conflict while keeping elephants safe.

By focusing on animal welfare and coexistence, we can help build stronger, more resilient communities for the future 🌱

Plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time. As the production of single-use plastics continues to surge, our planet is struggling to keep up🌏

Because most plastics are not biodegradable, they persist in the environment for hundreds or sometimes thousand of years, accumulating in our oceans and ecosystems🌊

In Borneo, where many communities rely on subsistence fishing, plastic waste and climate change are not distant threats but they directly impact livelihoods, food security, and health.

Through approaches focused on collaboration, partnerships, education and design thinking, we are working hard to develop sustainable solutions that empower local communities, reduce plastic waste at its source, and protect both livelihoods and ecosystems for future generations🐟
