How are you?

“Yeah, good thanks. You?”

“Yeah, fine thanks.”

And that’s that. 😂

Possibly the most pointless conversation we all have several times a week.

Because nobody really asked.

And nobody really answered.

My husband and I have this ongoing joke where one of us will take it a step further.

“How are you?”

“Yeah, fine.”

“No, but how are you… in yourself?”

Usually said with a very serious face. 😂

It feels like such an old-school British — and particularly Northern — thing to say.

And we’ve always laughed about it because…

What does that even mean?

Except lately I’ve been thinking about it.

And I think I finally get it.

Because “How are you in yourself?” isn’t really asking whether you’re happy or sad.

It’s not asking whether work’s going well.

Or whether the kids are okay.

Or whether you’re busy, tired, stressed, excited or having a good week.

It’s asking something underneath all of that.

Do you feel like YOU?

And that’s a very different question.

Because you can be fine…

and still not feel quite like yourself.

You can be getting everything done.
Showing up.
Working.
Parenting.
Organising.
Looking after everybody.
Laughing.
Going out.
Living a perfectly good life.

And still have this little sense that somewhere amongst all the doing…

you’ve gone a bit missing.

Not in a dramatic “I need to find myself” way.

I’m not sure most of us need to find ourselves.

And I definitely don’t think we need to become some shiny new version of ourselves.

Maybe we just need to notice what makes us feel more like ourselves again.

More rest?

More connection?

More adventure?

More play?

More space?

More joy?

Those moments where something inside you goes…

“Ahhh. There I am.”

So maybe my husband and I need to stop taking the p**s out of it.

Because “How are you… in yourself?” might actually be one of the best questions we can ask each other.

So forget the automatic “Yeah, fine thanks.”

How are you, in yourself?

And if you can answer that in one word, I’d genuinely love to know what it is.

“I’d absolutely LOVE to come… but I’ve got nobody to come with.”

If we had £1 for every time a woman said this to us… 😂

But here’s the thing we really want you to know:

You don’t need anyone to come with.

So many of the women you see in our retreat photos arrived on their own. They didn’t have a ready-made group. They didn’t know who they’d sit next to at dinner. And yes, plenty of them felt nervous before they came.

Then something rather lovely happens.

Someone says hello.
You find yourself chatting over dinner.
Someone makes you laugh.
You try something new together.

And suddenly the women you didn’t know a few days ago don’t feel like strangers anymore. 🤍

So please don’t let “I’ve got nobody to go with” become the reason you keep putting off the things you’d love to do.

You can come with a friend.

But you absolutely don’t need to.

Come solo. Leave with friends.

ADULTS DESERVE FIELD TRIPS. 🙌

Seriously.

Why did we get to adulthood and collectively decide that life should mostly consist of work, washing, spreadsheets, appointments and wondering what we’re having for tea?

At school, we got field trips.

We went somewhere different.
Tried something new.
Learnt things outside a classroom.
Sat next to someone we didn’t usually talk to.
Came home tired, happy and full of stories.

And then we grew up.

We think that’s a terrible system. 😂

So consider our retreats field trips for grown-up women.

PLAY. ADVENTURE. ALIVENESS. CONNECTION.

Turns out grown-ups need field trips too. ❤️

She proper Shirley Valentine’d it! 👏🏻🙌🏻

Fancy a bit of that? Come and join us on one of our upcoming retreats - Marrakech, Lake District, Costa Rica, Bali

There’s something we’ve noticed about women and trying new things…

We seem to think we need to be good at something before we’re allowed to enjoy it.

We don’t.

You can pick up a padel racket and completely miss the ball.

You can hit it into the net.

You can forget where you’re supposed to stand.

You can laugh so much you’re absolutely useless for the next point.

And you can still have a bloody brilliant time. 😂

That’s actually one of the reasons we’ve included padel in our Marrakech retreat.

It’s not a padel holiday for women who already play.

It’s a retreat where you can try padel - with proper coaching, alongside other women who are learning too, with absolutely no expectation that you’ll be any good at it. And it’s only for 2 hours a day. (The rest of the time we will be chilling by the pool, eating amazing food, having massages, going to the souks and seeing sunrises in hot air balloons.)

Because somewhere along the way, grown women stopped doing things simply because they looked fun.

And we think we should start again!

🎾 Three beginner-friendly padel sessions
☀️ Marrakech sunshine
🌴 Beautiful villa
🥘 Gorgeous food
🧘‍♀️ Time to actually switch off
✨ And a group of women who won’t care whether you hit a winner or hit the fence.

Being rubbish is not a reason not to come.
It might just be the best reason to.

Marrakech | 16–20 October 2026 from £999
(Split over 3 x £333 if booked before the 20th August)

Comment PADEL or message us if you fancy being a beginner with us. ❤️

Santorini - GHOSTED BY THE CHEF!
And fun horse riding stories including sexy cowboys 🤠
Here’s a snippet… Watch the full episode on Spotify or YouTube - link in bio or https://youtu.be/WYXcoIB_FGs

Episode 3 of The Secret Diary of a Retreat Leader takes us to Santorini — and it’s every bit as dreamy, dramatic, and unforgettable as you’d expect.

With its blue-and-white scenery, jaw-dropping sunsets, and cliffside views over the Aegean, Santorini was already set to be a bucket-list retreat. But this trip came with a huge curveball: the chef ghosted the team the night before they flew out.

What followed was a true retreat leader survival story. From writing menus on the plane to sourcing food from local restaurants, Jodie and Claire had to pivot fast and keep the retreat experience seamless for 22 women. Despite the kitchen challenges, missing dishwasher, and back-to-back catering pressure, the retreat still delivered magical moments — including a cliffside dinner, a beach horse ride, a boat trip to the volcano, and a life-changing breakthrough for one guest who chose to stay on the island a little longer and make a brave new decision for her life.

Along the way, the episode explores:
* What happens when a supplier fails at the last minute
* Why retreat hosts need backup plans and contingencies
* The importance of protecting client money and having the right cover in place
* How a retreat can become transformational, even when the logistics go sideways
* The joy, chaos, and deep reward of creating unforgettable experiences for women

It’s a story about resilience, improvisation, and the kind of magic that happens when you keep going, even when the plan falls apart.
