Elegance along the riverside, tradition met with every swing | At Taizi River Golf, encounter the landscapes and legends of Liaoyang
A city shaped by flowing water carries a thousand years of Liaoyang’s cultural heritage, and also holds my lifelong attachment to my hometown.
As a native of Liaoyang, the Taizi River is a unique memory engraved in my childhood. I left my hometown 24 years ago, but I still remember that when I was young, I often ran along the banks of the Taizi River with my classmates and friends—chasing the wind, playing by the water, and enjoying the scenery. The breeze by the river and the flowing water hold our purest and most beautiful youth memories. After many years away from home, returning again, this thousand-year-old city has completely transformed. The new eastern district has risen, and the old city has taken on a new look.
What surprises me most is that the once-familiar Taizi River bank not only preserves its cultural heritage, but has also become home to a refined and elegant high-end venue—the Liaoyang Taizi River Golf Club—now a new landmark symbolizing the city’s transformation and upgrade.
Today, in the name of my hometown, I invite you to experience the thousand-year cultural heritage of the Shenyang River (Yanshui) and explore this newly emerging riverside golf destination.
01 Thousand-Year Yanshui, Flowing With the Spirit of Loyalty
The Taizi River was formerly known as Yanshui. It has flowed for thousands of years, nourishing the land of Xiangping and carrying with it a tragic and heroic story of loyalty.
During the late Warring States period, Crown Prince Dan of the State of Yan sent Jing Ke on a mission to assassinate the King of Qin, leaving behind an epic tale. After the mission failed, he retreated to Liaodong to defend his homeland and protect the people. To prevent war from spreading further, Prince Dan sacrificed himself, exchanging his life for peace in Liaodong. In gratitude for his righteousness and loyalty, the people renamed Yanshui as the Taizi River (Crown Prince River).
As time passed and wars faded, the river has never stopped flowing. For thousands of years, the Taizi River has changed with the seasons: willow branches along the banks in spring, vast blue waters in summer, reed blossoms like snow in autumn, and quiet snowy landscapes in winter. This gentle natural and cultural landscape has nourished generations of Liaoyang people and become the deepest foundation of the city’s identity.
02 Riverside Renewal, A New Landmark of the Hometown
Time passes, and the hometown evolves.
Relying on the unique ecological landscape of the Taizi River, the Liaoyang Taizi River Golf Club officially opened in 2010. Located on Xiaoyu Island between the old city and the new eastern district, it covers a total area of 1,300 acres. It is Liaoyang’s first international-standard 18-hole golf course and a landmark witnessing the city’s transformation from a quiet old town to a modern livable city.
The course was designed by IMG (USA) and BO Company (Korea), perfectly integrating natural terrain with professional sports aesthetics. Unlike typical flat courses, it features four types of landscapes: mountains, forests, rivers, and islands, with a 15-meter elevation difference that creates rich layers and strong challenges.
More than 10,000 century-old trees surround the course, blending with the shimmering river water to create a scenic view at every step, beautiful in all four seasons.
The full course measures 7,147 yards and is designed for both professional competition and leisure play. The front nine holes are open and riverside-facing, ideal for beginners and relaxed enjoyment of the scenery. The back nine are more complex, with water hazards and changing terrain, testing precision and mindset, and showcasing the true charm of golf.
Facilities are fully developed, including a 280-yard professional driving range with 30 practice bays, suitable for daily training, youth coaching, and beginner experience programs. The club also offers high-end leisure and dining spaces, meeting the needs of sports, business, and relaxation.
03 Four Seasons of Elegance, A New Hometown Experience
Today, the Taizi River area is no longer just childhood memories—it now carries a modern and elegant lifestyle.
The golf course has innovatively developed a “Golf + Tourism” model, bringing new vitality to the region.
In spring and summer, the landscape is lush and vibrant, with flowing rivers and fresh greenery—an ideal natural oxygen bar for relaxation and healing while playing golf. In autumn and winter, the area transforms into a snowy wonderland, offering snow tubing, ice waterfalls, and winter activities, becoming a popular destination for families and tourists year-round.
In addition, the club continues to expand its offerings, including beginner training camps, junior golf programs, and family activities.
