Coffee — our daily fuel, our morning ritual.
The history of coffee, from the legends surrounding its discovery in the Ethiopian highlands and herds of goats, which after all were responsible for the fact that we drink coffee today, to the way it spread throughout the world, is one of the most interesting.
First produced by monks as a drink, and exported from Arabia, Qahwa, which means -that which prevents sleep-, was considered “the bitter invention of Satan”.
The culture of drinking coffee and coffee shops spread throughout the world, but not without controversy.
As an extremely coveted trade and source of income, it was the target of smuggling, trickery and seduction, and that is how it arrived in Brazil, inside a bouquet. 💐
Banned by the Governors of the Ottoman Empire, until a Pope intervened to allow its consumption in Europe, coffee shops sprang up around the world, known as Schools of the Wise or Penny Universities.
The act of drinking coffee is so normal and mechanical that we don't even think we are tasting history.
Shall we drink coffee with history?
