Sampati, brother of Jatayu, lost his wings while competing with his brother on who could fly higher. In trying to shield Jatayu from being seared by the sun’s flames, Sampati burnt his own wings and lived wingless all his life. He was the one who informed the vanara sena about Lanka and its location when they were losing hope in their quest to search for Sita Ma.
