On Sunday night, February 22, 2025, two snow leopards entered a livestock enclosure in Khandood village, Wakhan district of Badakhshan province, and killed 10 head of livestock.
Mir Ali Wakhani, a local resident who hosted this rare animal, says that the two snow leopards entered the enclosure at night, where a large number of livestock, including sheep and dairy cows, were being kept.
According to him, although the two wild animals spent the entire night inside the enclosure among the livestock, they killed only 10 animals and did not harm the rest. This is despite the fact that they could have killed all the livestock in the enclosure.
The snow leopard is considered one of the rare and endangered animals in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, and its presence in Wakhan reflects the environmental importance of the area. Furthermore, releasing them and bearing this economic loss with a smile demonstrates the local residents’ respect and care for the environment.

میزبانی از دو قلاده پلنگ برفی در قریه خندود ولسوالی واخان بدخشان
شب یکشنبه تاریخ 22 فبروری 2025 میلادی، دو قلاده پلنگ برفی در قریه خندود ولسوالی واخان، ولایت بدخشان، وارد یک آغل مواشی شده و 10 رأس مواشی را از بین بردند.
میرعلی واخانی، یکی از باشندگان محل که میزبان این حیوان نادر بوده است، می‌گوید که این دو پلنگ برفی شب‌هنگام وارد آغلِ شدند که تعداد زیادی مواشی، از جمله گوسفندان و گاوهای شیری، در آن نگهداری می ‌شد.
به گفتۀ وی، با وجود اینکه این دو حیوان وحشی تمام شب را در داخل آغل و در میان مواشی سپری کردند، تنها 10 رأس را از بین برده و به سایر مواشی آسیب نرساندند. این در حالی است که آنها می ‌توانستند تمامی مواشی موجود در آغل را ازبین ببرند.
پلنگ برفی از جمله حیوانات نادر و در معرض خطر در مناطق کوهستانی افغانستان به ‌شمار میررود و حضور آن در واخان نشان‌دهندۀ اهمیت محیط زیست این منطقه است. همچنان رها ساختن آن‌ها و تحمل این ضرر اقتصادی با لبخند، نشان‌دهندۀ توجه باشندگان محل به محیط زیست می‌باش
