🇰🇪 What they don’t tell you about visiting Kenya👇🏽

I came to Kenya for the wildlife.

The lions, elephants and vast landscapes of the Maasai Mara were every bit as extraordinary as I’d imagined.

But if you swipe through to some of the final slides, you’ll notice something.

Because as time passes, I’ve found that the memories I return to most often aren’t always the ones I expected.

Kenya is home to some of the most incredible experiences on Earth, but what stayed with me long after I left were the moments in between - the conversations, the smiles, and the people who brought the destination to life.

Some places are unforgettable because of what you see.

Others are u forgettable because of how they make you feel.

Kenya was both ✨

There are countless things I remember about my stay at Tsowa Safari Island in Zimbabwe.

Being surprised at breakfast by a herd of elephants crossing the Zambezi River (stay tuned for that REEL coming later this week 👀). Evenings spent around the campfire beneath a sky full of stars. The feeling of being completely immersed in the wild.

But one of my most cherished memories came in a far more unexpected form.

A slice of banana cake.

To most people, it would have looked unremarkable. But from the very first bite, I was instantly transported back to memories of my late grandmother, who made what I still consider the world’s best banana cake.

She passed away seven years earlier, and in all that time I’d never tasted one that came close.

Until that afternoon.

I asked the staff if they could bring out the chef so I could thank him personally.

His name was Lumbani.

Later, I learned that his name translates to “give praise” or “express deep gratitude.”

Whether coincidence or not, I couldn’t have imagined a more fitting name.

Because travel isn’t always about the moments you expect to remember.

Sometimes it’s the people you meet, the kindness they show, and the memories they awaken that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

A destination can be beautiful.

But it’s the people who make it unforgettable.

Wouldn’t you agree?
