𝗩𝗼𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀

⚡ voestalpine is building electric blast furnaces, marking one of Austria's biggest steps towards climate-neutral steel production by 2050.

It is hardly a secret that steel manufacturing is extremely harmful to the environment. Up to 9% of global CO2 emissions are caused by the steel industry. The sector is already experiencing growing demand for more climate-friendly steel and is therefore aiming to decarbonise production. voestalpine AG, an Austrian steel group considered to be among the 50 most important firms in the sector worldwide, has several projects in the pipeline to meet this challenge.

The most significant undertaking is without doubt the decommissioning of its conventional blast furnaces, which run on coal. voestalpine currently operates five of these furnaces and plans to shut down the last one by 2050.

The alternative is the electric arc furnace. Put simply, an electrically generated arc creates enough heat to melt the metal "charge" inside the furnace. Once the furnaces currently under construction go online in 2027, the company expects to reduce CO2 emissions by around 30%. Two more electric arc furnaces are set to follow by 2030, cutting emissions in half.

🏛️𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗙𝗜𝗡 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

BALFIN Group has completed the full acquisition of the historic Bundesbahndirektionsgebäude, located at Nordbahnstraße 50 in Vienna’s second district. The building is now part of the Group’s international portfolio.

Originally constructed in 1872 as Hotel Donau for the 1873 Vienna World Exhibition, the property later served as the headquarters of the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway starting from 1892 and subsequently hosted various Austro-Hungarian state railway institutions. Following nationalization in 1907, it became the Federal Railway Directorate in Vienna.

The Group has not disclosed the investment value, but according to media sources, it is estimated to be between €35 and €40 million. The investment aims to restore and modernize the building, preserving its existing architectural features while adapting it for contemporary functions in line with the city’s urban development needs.

This acquisition represents a further step in BALFIN Group’s international expansion strategy within the real estate sector.

Grupi BALFIN ka përfunduar blerjen e plotë të ndërtesës historike Bundesbahndirektionsgebäude, e vendosur në Nordbahnstraße 50, në distriktin e dytë të Vjenës. Kjo ndërtesë është tashmë pjesë e portofolit ndërkombëtar të grupit.

Ndërtesa u ndërtua në vitin 1872 si Hotel Donau, në kuadër të Ekspozitës Botërore të Vjenës që u mbajt në vitin 1873. Më pas, nga viti 1892, ajo u përdor si seli për Hekurudhën Veriore të Perandorit Ferdinand dhe më vonë për institucionet shtetërore hekurudhore të Austro-Hungarisë, për të përfunduar si Drejtoria Federale e Hekurudhave në Vjenë pas vitit 1907.

Grupi nuk ka bërë publike vlerën e investimit, por sipas burimeve mediatike, ajo llogaritet të jetë ndërmjet 35 dhe 40 milionë euro. Objektivi i investimit është restaurimi dhe modernizimi i ndërtesës, duke ruajtur karakteristikat arkitekturore ekzistuese dhe duke e përshtatur për funksione bashkëkohore në përputhje me nevojat urbane të qytetit.

Kjo blerje përfaqëson një hap të mëtejshëm në strategjinë e zgjerimit ndërkombëtar të Grupit BALFIN në sektorin e pasurive të paluajtshme.

🔋 𝗲𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮: Austria invests half a billion euros in expanding e-mobility.

In 2025 and 2026, the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure will invest 480 million euros to accelerate the shift to e-mobility, with a strong focus on expanding the fast-charging network.

A key role is played by the newly designed umbrella programme 𝗲𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮, which brings together four central areas under one roof - each driving funding, reforms, research projects, and additional measures:

🔌 Charging infrastructure ("eCharge")
🚍 E-buses ("eBus")
🚚 E-trucks ("eTruck")
🚙 Private and commercial e-vehicles ("eRide")

One main goal: by 2030, 95% of the population should have access to a fast-charging station within 10 kilometres.

The ministry supports this with targeted funding:

▪️ 𝗲𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲: Up to 60% of costs for fast-charging stations and charging infrastructure in rural areas

▪️ 𝗲𝗕𝘂𝘀: 60% funding for zero-emission bus fleets and related charging systems

▪️ 𝗲𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗸: Up to 60% for switching to e-trucks and 40% for the necessary infrastructure

In addition to these funding schemes, important reforms and expansion measures are underway, such as the rollout of charging points on motorways and expressways in cooperation with the Austrian infrastructure company ASFINAG

🎓🌱 𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗢𝗞𝗨 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘀

Starting this September, the Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) will offer nine academic programmes fully harmonized with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). This partnership aims to strengthen AUT’s position as a leading institution in agricultural and environmental education across the Western Balkans.

By 2030, AUT aspires to become the regional subsidiary of BOKU Vienna, reflecting the deepening strategic collaboration between the two universities. This initiative responds to the growing demand for professionals in agriculture, environmental sciences, and resource management, particularly in the context of Albania’s EU accession process.

Duke nisur nga ky shtator, Universiteti Bujqësor i Tiranës (UBT) do të ofrojë nëntë programe akademike të harmonizuara plotësisht me Universitetin e Burimeve Natyrore dhe Shkencave të Jetës në Vjenë (BOKU). Ky partneritet synon të forcojë pozicionin e UBT-së si një institucion udhëheqës në arsimin bujqësor dhe mjedisor në Ballkanin Perëndimor.

Deri në vitin 2030, UBT aspiron të bëhet filial rajonal i BOKU-t në Vjenë, duke reflektuar thellimin e bashkëpunimit strategjik midis dy universiteteve. Kjo iniciativë i përgjigjet kërkesës në rritje për profesionistë në bujqësi, shkenca mjedisore dhe menaxhimin e burimeve, veçanërisht në kontekstin e procesit të anëtarësimit të Shqipërisë në BE.

On 22 July, the financing agreement between Albania and the EBRD for the construction of a 50 MW solar power plant in Belsh was signed in Tirana. The project, with a total volume of approximately EUR 40 million, is a WBIF initiative under the EU’s Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.

Austria played a key role in the project preparation by providing a Technical Cooperation Grant of EUR 270,000 through the EBRD’s High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA). This contribution covered, among other things, the feasibility study, project design, and environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs).

According to the EBRD, the project is expected to benefit more than 16,000 people and is helping to improve the country’s energy mix. The tendering process for the solar project is expected to be launched within six months.

During the event, EU ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, also announced a new IPA project focused on energy efficiency, particularly in public buildings, with a planned volume of around EUR 50 million.

Më 22 korrik, në Tiranë u nënshkrua marrëveshja e financimit midis Shqipërisë dhe Bankës Evropiane për Rindërtim dhe Zhvillim (BERZH) për ndërtimin e një parku diellor me kapacitet 50 MW në Belsh. Projekti, me një vlerë totale prej rreth 40 milionë euro, është një iniciativë e WBIF në kuadër të Planit Ekonomik dhe të Investimeve të BE-së për Ballkanin Perëndimor.

Austria ka luajtur një rol kyç në përgatitjen e projektit duke ofruar një grant bashkëpunimi teknik prej 270.000 euro, përmes programit të BERZH-it “Partneriteti me Ndikim të Lartë për Veprimin Klimatik” (HIPCA). Ky kontribut mbuloi, ndër të tjera, studimin e fizibilitetit, projektimin teknik si dhe vlerësimet e ndikimit mjedisor dhe social (ESIA).

Sipas BERZH-it, nga projekti pritet të përfitojnë mbi 16.000 persona, dhe do të ndihmojë në përmirësimin e strukturës së burimeve të energjisë në vend. Procesi i tenderimit për këtë projekt diellor pritet të nisë brenda gjashtë muajve.

Gjatë aktivitetit, Ambasadori i BE-së në Shqipëri, z. Silvio Gonzato, njoftoi gjithashtu për një projekt të ri IPA të fokusuar në eficiencën e energjisë, veçanërisht në ndërtesat publike, me një fond të planifikuar prej rreth 50 milionë euro.
