The Sharr Dog (also called Šarplaninac or Qeni i Sharrit) is a large livestock guardian dog native to the Sharr Mountains, which stretch across northeastern Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia.
In Albania, you’ll most often see them in high mountain pastures, guarding sheep and goats.

These dogs don’t bark unnecessarily — when a Sharr dog reacts, it means business.

In the mountains, shepherds will tell you:
“The flock sleeps when the Sharr dog is awake.”

If you’ve ever met one on a mountain trail — calm, watching silently — that’s pure Sharr dog energy.
