Որդան կարմիրը միջատ է, որից ստանում էին ներկ և դեղամիջոց միջնադարի Հայաստանում։
Այն ոսկու արժեք ուներ, և Մետաքսի ճանապարհով հասնում էր արևելք` մինչ Չինաստան, և արևմուտք` Եվրոպա։
Որդանն ապրում է Արարատյան դաշտի աղուտ հողերի տակ, և տարվա ընթացքում միայն 10 օր` սեպտեմբերի 2֊րդ կեսին, դուրս է գալիս երկրի մակերևույթին` արուին հանդիպելու և ձվադրելու նպատակով։
Որդան կարմիրը ներառված է Հայաստանի Հանրապետության Կարմիր Գրքում։

Armenian cochineal is a kind of insect, which lives only in Ararat Plain in Armenia.
There are only 3 species of this insect in the world. One's homeland is Central Asia, the other's is Mexico.
Armenian cochineal was used for producing a special red dye, which had a price of gold in Middle Ages.
The color was used for painting and in the textile industry.
Armenian cochineal is a very small insect, living under the saline soils, and only about 10 days in a year they rise to the surface of the ground to meet the male and lay eggs.
This insect is included in the Red Book.
