Armenian trchnagir (literally translated to “bird script”) is a type of writing, mainly capital letters, using the image of birds and other animals, plants, and even humans. In the Middle Ages, Armenian illuminated manuscripts typically began and were decorated with these beautiful and intricate letters, which are still used by modern artists in Armenia today. During your experience at our studio, you’ll have the opportunity to paint your own trchnagir letter and take it home with you, in addition to being photographed wearing one of our handmade traditional Armenian costumes. Our photo shoot experience with traditional Armenian clothing includes a masterclass in a unique type of Armenian calligraphy called trchnagir. Dating back to the middle ages, trachnagir is writing in the shape of stylized birds and other animals, plants and people. After your photo shoot wearing one of our handmade costumes, you’ll select and paint a bird-shaped letter of your choice on chiffon or silk, all while listening to traditional Armenian music.
