Монастырю Гегард присвоен статус особо охраняемого объекта со стороны ЮНЕСКО.

Отметим, что Гегард – первый объект в Армении, которому предоставлен такой статус. А с 2000 года этот памятники включен в Список всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.

Монастырский комплекс Гегард является одним из примечательных мест Армении. Ведь его название происходит от копья римского воина Лонгина, которым он пронзил сердце распятого Иисуса Христа. Согласно информации, копье привез в Армению апостол Фаддей.
