The Nordic countries are known for their beautiful nature and coastlines. Another reason to spend your holidays there is their sense for sustainability – also in tourism.
Here are out top five ecotourism tips for the far North:
Denmark: Go Boat Copenhagen
A special and eco-friendly way to discover Copenhagen from the water is Go Boat. The boat has space for up to eight persons including a table so you can have a proper picnic while admiring the castle Amalienborg.
Finland Wild Taiga Association
The Wild Taiga is formed by age-old woods, crystal clear lakes and rivers. One of the highlights is observing wild animals like bears and wolves. The aim of the association is to preserve wild live and nature.
Island: Sólheimar Eco Village
Started as a children’s home in the 80s, it is now the oldest eco-village world-wide. It provides home to people with special needs. Visitors can have tours and take part in workshops on topics like herbalism or art.
Norway: The Golden Road
The Golden Road is an association of local farms, museums, sculpture parks and historic landmarks along the peninsula Inderøy. The Norwegian tourist board labelled The Golden Road as one of the firsts a “Sustainable Destination by Innovation Norway”.
Sweden: Kullaberg
The nature reserve was added to the “Charter for Sustainable Tourism” in December 2017 and is the first certified sustainable destination of Sweden. Kullaberg is located on the peninsula in the province Skåne. Activities like hiking, biking and cave tours are offered throughout the year.
