In 9th century Georgia first time became unified under Bagrationi dynasty. Taking its basis from various ancient states of Colchis and Iberia. During the 10th to 12th centuries, the Kingdom of Georgia was thriving; although, later in 13th century it fell to the Mongol invasions of Georgia and Armenia. Georgian Kingdom of Iberia in 327 A.D. converted to Christianity and to this day the religion remains the same in Georgia. For many centuries different kingdoms and empires governed Georgia until in 1801 it subjoined the Russian Empire. After a brief bid for independence with the Democratic Republic of Georgia of 1918–1921, Georgia was part of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic from 1922 to 1936, and then formed the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Georgia took its independence from Russia in 1991 and has been independent country since then.
Geographical location of current Georgia is at the juncture of Eastern Europe and Western Asia surrounded by the Black Sea, Armenia, Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. Georgian language is not Indo-European, Turkic nor Semitic, but rather comes from Kartvelian family of languages, which include Georgian, Svan, Mingrelian and Laz. Current population of Georgia is 4,400,000 out of which 1,500,000 live in the capital. The capital city of Georgia is Tbilisi, which was found in the 5th century by Vakhtang Gorgasaliars and served as the capital for 1500 years with intervals. Tbilisi’s cultural, ethnic, and religious background is very diverse and many people from different backgrounds have turned this beautiful city into their home. Georgia is known for it’s diverse culinary which was adapted from neighboring countries throughout the centuries and turned its culinary into such special one. Thousands of visitors come to Georgia to see its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, ancient heritage, and to taste the mouth-watering food which always tempts the visitors to come back again.
