What would a visit to Armenia be like if one were not to visit the Monastery of Geghard, a beautiful relic that dates back to the 4th century.?
Pearched high among the hills, the monastery is partly carved out in rock and is registration among UNESCO's world heritage monument list.
It is said that the Spear (Geghard) that was used to pierce the side of Jesus Christ on the cross was kept here, hence the name Geghardavank or the Monastery of the Spear.

Hello from the Orbelian Caravansarai. In medieval Armenia many buildings were built along commercial routes for the accommodation of travelers. One of those, the caravanserai of Selim, was built in 1332 by Prince Chesar Orbelian, according to an inscription in Armenian and Arabic. This caravanserai offered hospitality to travelers along the highway crossing the Selim (Sulema) mountains. The best preserved of all medieval caravanserais in Armenia, it comprises a vaulted antechamber and a large hall partitioned into three sections lighted through openings in the ceiling. This building is an excellent example of Armenian secular architecture in the Middle Ages. The Armenian inscription on the right side of the entrance inside reads:
"In the name of the Almighty and powerful God, in the year 1332, in the world-rule of Busaid Khan, I Chesar son of Prince of Princes Liparit and my mother Ana, grandson of Ivane, and my brothers, handsome as lions, the princes Burtel, Smbat and Elikom of the Orbelian nation, and my wife Khorishah daughter of Vardan [and ...] of the Senikarimans, built this spiritual house with our own funds for the salvation of our souls and those of our parents and brothers reposing in Christ, and of my living brothers and sons Sargis, Hovhannes the priest, Kurd and Vardan. We beseech you, passers-by, remember us in Christ. The beginning of the house {took place} in the high-priesthood of Esai, and the end, thanks to his prayers, in the year 1332."

The church of St. Stepanos or Zorats (of the Army), is considered a fine relic of medieval Armenia. It was constructed in the 13th century by Prince Tarsaich Orbelian, governor of the province of Siunik. This church has no hall. It consists only of a central altar with a sacristy on each side. The faithful thus attended divine services in the open air.

"On a green hill East of Yeghegis Village, S. Zorats cathedral or S. Stepanos, built in 1303 by a grandson of Prince Tarsayich Orbelian."

The church has been extensively restored. Its name comes allegedly from the custom of consecrating arms and horses there before battle.

One of the strongest defensive fortresses and also one of the largest in the entire Vayots Dzor and Syunik regions, Smbataberd (the fortress of Smbat) is located east of the Village Artabuynk in Vayits Dzor.
The entire area of the defensive fortress is about one kilometre and a beautiful 3 km hike takes us up the mountain to reach there, which makes one realise the strategic defensive position the fortress had during its glory days.
The cliffs and valleys bellow the fortress provide a breathtaking view of the lofty mountains and one can't help but be mentally transported back in time when the fortress was much coveted by many, including the Sejluks and tur Mongols.

The monastery of Hayravank is a 9-12th century monastery that provides a breathtaking view of Lake Sevan, the jewel of Armenia and the largest freshwater lake in the entire South Caucasus region.
The monastery complex is comprised of three main parts, the church, the the chapel and the gavit.
The surrounding area of the church also boasts of an ancient settlement that dates bac k to the bronze and iron ages.
