🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE – MOBILITY REGULATION UPDATE
Effective Immediately – April 1, 2025
In light of increasing public concern and after a comprehensive study conducted by the Inter-Island Safety & Mobility Committee in partnership with regional transportation authorities, Saint Martin has reached a critical decision regarding road safety, noise pollution, and public tranquility.
Over the past two years, the island has experienced a significant uptick in the use of two- and four-wheeled recreational vehicles, including motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, and ATVs. While these modes of transport have provided ease of mobility and enhanced visitor experiences, they have also contributed to a series of pressing issues:
⚠️ Increased incidents of reckless driving, particularly in tourist-heavy zones
🔊 Excessive noise disrupting residential and protected natural areas
🌿 Irreversible environmental degradation in coastal and off-road zones
🚓 Strain on local law enforcement and emergency response resources
After extensive internal consultations and community hearings, authorities have decided to implement the following immediate measure:
Effective as of April 1, 2025, at 06:00 a.m., the operation of all scooters, motorcycles, mopeds, and four-wheeled recreational vehicles (ATVs and similar) is officially banned across the territory of Saint Martin.
All current operators must cease use immediately. Violations are subject to citation, impoundment, and fines of up to €750.
Exemptions will apply only to emergency services and authorized municipal personnel. A hotline has been set up for residents to report infractions and for visitors to request clarification.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but the protection of our island, its people, and its peace must remain our top priority.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
The Saint Martin Committee for Sustainable Mobility
P.S. If you're reading this while revving your engine: don't worry. It's April Fool's. 🛵😉 Your scooter’s safe (for now).
Enjoy the ride—just do it responsibly.
