HUAYNA POTOSÍ — INTO THE DARK, ABOVE THE CLOUDS 🏔️🇧🇴

Long before sunrise, when the world below is still sleeping, the journey begins.

Headlamps pierce the darkness as we leave high camp and step onto the frozen slopes of Huayna Potosí — 6,088 m. Ahead, there is almost nothing to see except the small circle of light at our feet and the silhouettes of our climbing partners disappearing upward into the night.

Crampons bite into hard snow. Ice axes in hand. The rope connects us as we slowly gain altitude.

Step. Breathe. Step. Breathe.

At 6,000 meters, every movement demands effort. The cold penetrates everything, the air becomes incredibly thin, and the darkness seems endless.

Then, slowly, the horizon begins to change.

A thin line of light appears behind the Andes. Darkness turns blue, then orange and gold. Suddenly, the enormous frozen world we have been climbing through all night reveals itself.

And finally — the summit of Huayna Potosí.

Standing at 6,088 meters, watching the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Cordillera Real, is one of those moments that stays with you forever.

But the summit is only halfway.

Now comes the descent — walking down what feels like an endless ocean of frozen snow and ice, retracing every step taken through the darkness. The legs are tired, the sun is stronger, and high camp seems impossibly far away.

One step after another.

Until eventually, you look back.

Huayna Potosí rises behind you, immense and brilliant beneath the Bolivian sky.

And somewhere high on that mountain is a line of footprints in the snow — proof of an unforgettable night spent climbing toward the sky.

Some mountains give you a summit. Others give you a story you will tell for the rest of your life.
