Oxygen: same mountain, same altitude, one more option in the plan.

Supplemental oxygen can be used on Aconcagua as part of specific expedition plans, particularly on shorter itineraries, faster ascents, or on summit day, when the goal is to provide additional support at extreme altitude and improve a climber’s chances of reaching the top.

But there’s an important point: oxygen does not replace acclimatization, fitness, preparation, or good guiding.

It’s not a shortcut. It’s another tool that, when used properly, can help climbers perform more efficiently at altitude and support a stronger final push.

At AMG, we have O2 available for selected programs and summit-day use, always within a broader plan built around acclimatization, conditions, pace and safety.

We can control everything.

AMG has direct control over its entire operation. We don’t outsource anything. Our guides, porters, base camp staff and logistics teams all work under the same standards, managed directly by us from Mendoza to the mountain.

Well, almost everything.

There’s one thing we can’t control: the weather.

Like on any high mountain, weather on Aconcagua can be unpredictable. December, January or February can bring freezing temperatures, strong winds, snow, or simply days when moving higher isn’t the right decision.

What we can control is how you spend that time. And that’s another part of an expedition where good infrastructure makes a real difference. Comfortable base camps, well-equipped high camps, proper meals, good common spaces, and a team that knows how to make a weather day feel a little less like a weather day.

Sometimes you climb. Sometimes you wait.

And if Aconcagua decides you’re going to wait, you might as well have a pretty good place to do it.

Weather is one of the hardest parts of understanding what “doing the right thing” really means in the mountains. So, what is the right thing? It's knowing when to keep moving up, and knowing when the mountain has the final word. Spoiler alert. It always does.

During the first part of the season, teams reached the summit during favorable weather windows. In early January, tougher conditions closed those windows for a period. More recently, our latest teams summited again, this time under exceptional weather.

The job is to do the best possible work and, above all, the safest thing given the conditions. That means clear decisions, solid protocols, and the discipline to stick to them, even when turning around is not easy.

That is a lot. And that is exactly what we do. All the time.

La cabalgata por el Paso Piuquenes es bastante más que fusionar historia con aventura. Es transitar una ruta que ha sido utilizada durante siglos, mucho antes de que existieran las fronteras y los mapas. Comerciantes, mensajeros y ejércitos enteros atravesaron estos valles, conectando lo que hoy es Argentina y Chile. Recorrerla hoy significa avanzar por las mismas sendas creadas por el tiempo, el clima y las personas que estuvieron aquí mucho antes que nosotros.
Valles abiertos, pasos altos y ese silencio que solo existe en el corazón de la cordillera. Cada paso carga historia, y cada giro del sendero recuerda que los Andes nunca fueron un muro. Siempre fueron un vínculo.
Más que una cabalgata, es un viaje hacia una herencia andina compartida.

This route has been used for centuries, long before borders and maps. Traders, messengers, and entire armies passed through these valleys, linking what is now Argentina and Chile. Riding it today is not about pushing hard or ticking a box. It is about moving along the same lines shaped by time, weather, and people who came long before us.
Open valleys, high passes, and that rare silence you only find far from roads and crowds. Every step of the horse carries history. Every turn of the trail reminds you that the Andes were never a wall. They were always a connection.

Peak season is on and our teams are spread across the mountain. Basecamp is full of life. High camps are busy and on the move. Summit pushes roll one after another.
Some are resting, some are climbing, some are already on top. Everyone is exactly where they should be, even with a stretch of rough weather that started today and should pass in a couple of days.
This is Aconcagua in full rhythm, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Are New Year’s resolutions still a thing? If so, here’s ours. We’re going to make sure every climber who chooses AMG has the best expedition anyone can dream of, with safety at the core and as our top priority.
Beyond that, we will do more than what’s expected to deliver a complete experience: great guides, a strong basecamp team to support you, excellent food, solid logistics, and above all, the best overall experience on the mountain.
In just a few hours, at least for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, we’ll start a new year. Let’s make it count 🍹😉🤙

Christmas is finally here! Time flies when you’re doing what you love. If you don’t believe us, just look at the happy faces of our staff and climbers.
To be honest, Aconcagua is one of the few places in Argentina where you can still find snow this time of year. Santa and his sled seem to appreciate it.
Our gift list for him is always the same and always well delivered: a solid expedition and one great summit day.

All of our initial teams made it to the summit. That’s right, you’re reading correctly: all of them reached the top of the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. With an impeccable use of the best guide-to-climber ratio on summit day, we made sure our climbers were safely taken to the place they had dreamed of for so long. What’s next for them? Enjoying basecamp, followed by a well-deserved rest in Mendoza. One thing is for sure: every one of them will start 2026 with one more item ticked on their wish list.
