Weather is one of the hardest parts of understanding what âdoing the right thingâ really means in the mountains. So, what is the right thing? It's knowing when to keep moving up, and knowing when the mountain has the final word. Spoiler alert. It always does.
During the first part of the season, teams reached the summit during favorable weather windows. In early January, tougher conditions closed those windows for a period. More recently, our latest teams summited again, this time under exceptional weather.
The job is to do the best possible work and, above all, the safest thing given the conditions. That means clear decisions, solid protocols, and the discipline to stick to them, even when turning around is not easy.
That is a lot. And that is exactly what we do. All the time.
