I have been thinking and reading about recovering from injuries. When paddling, I am in solo kayak 99% of the time. I have a fear that adaptive resistance will lead to injury. Adaptive resistance can appear as you do the same exercise without much variation. Muscle memory takes over and you are less adaptable to changes in the environment. So instead of adjusting the stroke or rotation for an upcoming wave, you hit it with the same routine movement that proves insufficient for the environment. Best case, you flip, miss a tuck and roll, and end up in a wet exit yard sale. Worst case you pull or strain a muscle.

To avoid that, I have been trying activities that are similar to, but not more of the same, as the foundational skill. I recently went whitewater rafting, which is a heavy workout for 1 side of the body. Fantastic on so many fronts, challenging the muscles with a little variation, feeling how the raft responds differently in the water conditions and especially great practice coordinating with others in the raft.

So much fun on the Salzach River. I highly recommend whitewater rafting.

Texas Blueberries!?! Thanks to the ladies of TOWN East Texas for highlighting Blueberty Ridge Farm in Mineola. I picked 2 gallons of delicious blueberries. The berries are in abundance, it won't take you long to fill your bucket. Blueberry Ridge Farm Mineola It's and easy drive from Dallas and SO worth it.
