Did you know that one of the world's most famous Christmas songs was first performed in a small Austrian village?
To remain a qualified guide, it’s not enough to read the material once. You need to build a clear story in your mind, adapt it into the languages you work in, and personally walk the entire route yourself. And perhaps most importantly, you have to revisit the material regularly — because even fascinating historical details can fade over time.
Today I’m preparing for one of my favorite themed tours: the story of Joseph Mohr, Franz Xaver Gruber, and the world-famous Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night".
Most guests book this tour during the Advent and Christmas season, but the history behind this beloved song can be enjoyed all year round. Even in summer, travelers are often surprised by how much beauty, culture, and history are hidden along the route.
The tour includes the charming village of Oberndorf, where "Silent Night" was first performed in 1818, as well as several other historic and picturesque locations that many visitors to Austria never discover.
If you're looking for an authentic experience away from crowded tourist routes, this tour is a wonderful choice. The story of "Silent Night" is not just about Christmas — it’s about music, history, faith, and the people whose creation touched the entire world.
Have you ever visited a place because of a song or a story?
