Informative Session on the Fiscal Peace Agreement and the Cancellation of Outstanding Tax Liabilities

Today, ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Albania, in cooperation with the DIHA Deutsche Industrie- und Handelsvereinigung in Albanien, organized an informative workshop with the General Department of Taxation Drejtoria e Përgjithshme e Tatimeve (DPT).

The workshop focused on the presentation and practical implementation of the Fiscal Peace Agreement and the Law on the Cancellation of Outstanding Unpaid Tax Liabilities, following the entry into force of the related secondary legislation in May 2026.

The event provided a valuable platform for direct dialogue between the tax administration and the business community, enabling participants to receive updates, seek clarifications, and discuss practical aspects of the new legal framework.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Rozana Çelmeta, Director of the Business Processes Directorate at DPT, for her comprehensive presentation and valuable insights, as well as to all participants for their active engagement and constructive discussions.

Such initiatives contribute to greater transparency, legal certainty, and stronger cooperation between public institutions and the business community in Albania.

Organised by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA and Enterprise Europe Network Austria , the event brings together food and beverage companies with buyers from retail and wholesale markets.

Marketplace Austria for Food & Beverages takes place on 14 October at the Federal Economic Chambe in Vienna. Buyers who cannot travel can schedule online meetings on 15 October.

In addition, company visits are planned for 13 and 15 October, offering insight into production environments beyond the meeting tables.

For international partners, the format reduces market entry effort by combining meetings, tastings and site visits in one programme.

Conference languages are German and English.

🎓 Strengthening educational bridges between Austria and Albania

As part of the Economic Mission “Study in Austria 2026”, held on 7–8 May, leading Austrian higher education institutions presented their study programs in Shkodra and Tirana. The initiative aimed to further strengthen educational cooperation and knowledge exchange between Austria and Albania while inspiring young talents to explore international study opportunities.

Highlights of the mission included visits to the Shkolla Austriake "Peter Mahringer" in Shkodra, as well as the Harry Fultz Institute in Tirana. The programme was complemented by a networking evening, bringing together key stakeholders from the education sector, the Austrian business community, and Albanian partner institutions, organised in cooperation with the Austrian Embassy Tirana.

📍 Austria Connect CESEE 2026 – Competitiveness in Transition | Bratislava

More than 300 decision‑makers, entrepreneurs and representatives of Austrian companies gathered last week in Bratislava for the Austria Connect CESEE 2026 to discuss one of the defining questions for Central and South‑Eastern Europe: how to remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.

The economic relevance of CESEE is clear. The region continues to outperform the EU average in terms of growth, with Austrian goods exports reaching around €38 billion. Trade, investment and long‑standing partnerships underline how deeply Austria is economically intertwined with CESEE - including Albania and the Western Balkans.

Key takeaways from the day:

🌍 From catch‑up to transformation
CEE & SEE are no longer catch‑up regions, but diverse transformation hubs with distinct economic identities and development paths.

⚙️ Competitiveness needs direction
Growth alone is no longer sufficient. Strategic clarity, innovation and timely investment decisions are becoming decisive as value chains shift and new global players emerge.

👥 Demographics shape competitiveness
Talent shortages and skills gaps are reshaping labour markets, highlighting the importance of education, upskilling and smart talent strategies for sustainable growth.

🏭 Transformation is ongoing
Industrial change, new working models and technological development are reshaping business across CEE and SEE - creating both challenges and concrete opportunities.

🤝 Technology matters - people make the difference
Digitalisation and automation enable transformation, but leadership quality, corporate culture and meaningful work remain the true differentiators.

One central conclusion stood out: CESEE is highly diverse. Markets differ significantly in structure, pace and regulatory frameworks. Successful engagement therefore requires solid preparation, strong local partners and a deep understanding of local conditions.

Informative Meeting with the General Directorate of Customs

ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Albania and Bloconomy, in cooperation with the Albanian Customs Dogana Shqiptare successfully organized an informative meeting on April 8, 2026, bringing together representatives from public institutions, Austrian subsidiaries, and members of the BLOconomy network.

Following the welcoming remarks by:

Work & Study Fair 2026 in Tirana – Successfully Concluded!

The Work & Study Fair 2026, held on March 18–19 at the Palais of Congresses in Tirana, successfully brought together students, graduates, and young professionals eager to explore international education and career opportunities.

At the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Albania stand, we proudly presented eight Austrian higher education institutions alongside the Austrian Business Agency (ABA). Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about study programs and admission requirements, as well as international education and mobility opportunities. 🔬 Smaller than bacteria: Vienna University of Technology has created the world's smallest QR code.

It measures 1.98 square micrometres and is milled into a ceramic layer using focused ion beams. Each pixel is just 49 nanometres, which makes the code invisible to visible light. It can only be read with an electron microscope.

Researchers at Technische Universität Wien carried out the project with Cerabyte, a company working on long‑term data storage technologies. Their shared focus lies in materials research.

Conventional digital storage requires constant energy input, cooling systems and periodic data migration. Ceramic films behave differently. They remain stable under extreme conditions and preserve structural information over long periods.

The experiment demonstrates that ceramic media can hold dense information in a compact and durable format.

On 04.03.2026, a webinar was organized for Austrian companies interested in engaging with the Western Balkans.

The Western Balkans remain one of Europe’s most dynamic economic regions. Progress in the EU integration process and large-scale infrastructure projects are creating new opportunities for Austrian companies in a geographically close and strategically important region.

The Austrian Commercial Counsellors and colleagues from the region provided an overview of current economic trends, investment projects, and concrete export and cooperation opportunities. The participants showed strong interest, and many valuable questions were addressed during the online session.
