And another one, as our good friends at Electranet threw out the 2025 welcome mat to some new recruits and I had the pleasure of showing some skills that’ll make them confident crew behind the wheel of their Prados or Hiluxes. Great fun couple of days! Thanks for coming. Here’s some pics.

In early January, for as long as I can remember, we’ve had the great pleasure of being invited to help the fine teaching staff of the Anangu Lands Partnership heading north to the APY Lands for their placements at community schools, develop their 4WD skills. Yesterday was the theory and mechanical awareness workshop day and today, the important bit, getting behind the wheel. Dirt roads pose the greatest risks, so we explored emergency stops and vehicle handling in the morning and the 4WD stuff in the arvo. Look at this happy bunch of Vegemites after completing all their tasks and passing with flying colours, their certificates will be complete with gold stars and elephant stamps! (🤔some of you might be of an age after student rewards like these were commonplace).

Hello 2025! Hope you all had a ripper Festive Season and are looking forward to a memorable summer and getting stuck back into work (and play). I am, and today I hosted our friends from Department of Education once more with their annual upskilling. Here’s some pics from an exciting day back in the saddle!

PS Sticks make excellent tyre deflators and should be cherished 😂!

Seen on this weekend’s course in the wilds of WA was Hunrhu’s epic Isuzu MU-X and featuring a couple of products near and dear to my heart, like Toyo Tyres Australia brilliant Open Country AT3 and Loaded4X4.Store bespoke bash plates in 6mm alloy for serious under vehicle protection. Both performed flawlessly of course despite the arduous conditions.

The last job for 2024 and of course for our favourite client Isuzu UTE Australia and in one of our favourite locations, Western Australia, out the back of the Swan Valley at a place called Moondyne.

Now Moondyne is very reminiscent of parts of the Mt Lofty Ranges as it morphs into the Flinders Ranges, tall timbered country but the point of difference is the appearance of cycads, an ancient and slow growing palm-like tree that goes back to the Jurassic period. Not only that, but Moondyne nestled in the Avon Valley also has plenty of centuries-old grass trees.

So, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday we led the day’s convoy of twelve D-MAXs and MU-Xs up hill and down Dale and we even found a place to take a dunk in the Avon River.

Here’s some pictorial goodness from the weekend.

What a busy week this one in November has been with online training with Isuzu on some electrical wizardry thing called Teams where people from all over Australia can enjoy a frank 4WD discussion 🤔😂 on the internerd and later the real deal and face-to-face, with a very pleasant group from SA Government and our friends at Schneider. Here’s some pics of Thursday and Friday’s shenanigans

For many, many years we’ve enjoyed the patronage of Adelaide University and all of their arms in the Science Department. We’ve loved interacting with the crews and learning of their projects and the good it’ll do for the planet. Yesterday I was lucky to enjoy the company of the TERN team and catch them at the tail end of their season and top up their skills. The focus was on refreshing the vehicle tech, reinforcing the need to manipulate tyre pressures to suit varied terrains and lots of vehicle recovery scenarios. With near-perfect weather we had a damn good day. Here are some pics to prove it! G’day to Maurice the mascot too!

This week I was back on the real tools, hosting a 4WD course for SA Government, and blessed with glorious weather. All attendees are headed for our APY Lands and are now skilled to meet the challenge. Here’s some pics of two days of on and off-road skills development.

Following hot on the heels of the D-MAX Blade release came the Adelaide 4WD Show and the perfect reveal to the public. I had the pleasure of assisting on the Isuzu stand and sharing with show goers all the goss on the development of the car and its specification. Special award goes to my mate Rocco from Adelaide Isuzu who likely was the first salesman to take a showroom order on Blade. Onya Rocco! Special thanks to my show manager Simone for running such a good event.

In amongst all the October action we also staged the sale of our Collinswood premises, our classroom and storage facility on North East Road that was home to Adventure 4WD for over twenty years. Many thanks to LJ Ho**er Commercial at Marden for facilitating the sale and bringing a competitive auction to a successful conclusion. We’re still running programs for our favourite clients on a reduced scale as we take some breaks between dates.

And last week’s official reveal of the new D-MAX Blade at Mt Lofty House was a sumptuous affair and went like clockwork thanks to my two partners in excellent event delivery, Jacqueline and Corey. We schmoozed national media types and took them on a very testing set of trails at Adelaide Hills 4WD Park and ultimately Goolwa Beach for a turf and surf kinda day. Fine dining and accommodation and plenty of fun.

The secret is well and truly out on the new Isuzu D-MAX Blade, an off-road focussed ute with engineering by Walkinshaw. Back in mid-August we got to drive the prototype in advance of the media release last week and took it on a bunch of trails and benchmarked it against my personal D-MAX. It was fascinating listening to Darren from Walkinshaw explain the engineering process behind the vehicle. Here’s some pics from August and I’ll follow in the next post with last week’s big reveal!

The last of my far-west adventure for 2024 was in the wilds of the Victoria Desert at the fabulous community of Oak Valley in the Maralinga lands. Such great hospitality extended to me and with keen participants willing to learn some new skills it was a truly productive couple of days.

Ceduna is an amazing location perched as it is at the head of Eyre Peninsula, God’s best bit of natural wonder. On the back of an enthralling SSV course on Monday, I ran a two-day 4WD program to a happy bunch of Vegemites from a mixed bag of agencies servicing the local community. Always good to visit Ceduna and thanks to the gang for your hospitality.
