Lake Gairdner + Gawler Ranges Wildlife

Glistening amid the arid landscape lies the spectacularly salty Lake Gairdner. Its white crust contrasts against the red soil like bright snow, and in some places, the salt is over a metre in thickness. The site of salt-flat speed records during the annual Speed Week, Lake Gairdner is a unique and natural wonder. Walk the surface, and return along Boundary Gorge in the company of native fauna like emus and kangaroos before driving through the ancient outback range to Kangaluna.

We’ll depart Adelaide to arrive at Wudinna where we’ll embark on a 4WD touring adventure as part of our excursion to Kangaluna. Enjoy a premium packed lunch at your leisure while out exploring.

An unhurried afternoon invites you to walk the wildlife-rich Corrobinnie Valley before our bush drive to the 1600 million-year-old cigar shaped volcanic rock formations of Yandinga Valley. Around you, the craggy surrounds of the magnificent Organ Piles Amphiteatre rise to the sky, majestic and commanding. After a visit to Pildappa Wave Rock, with its uninterrupted views of the Gawler Ranges, return to Kangaluna and enjoy well-deserved sundowners at Sturts Lake.

Aircraft type is a B200 Super King Air, a twin engine turbine prop jet with seating for up to 10 passengers, a leather window seat for everyone, climate controlled cabin, modern avionics with gps and weather radar, exceptional capability, performance and comfort with cruising speeds in excess of 500 km/h

Flight time Adelaide to Wudinna is approximately 50 minutes

Kangaluna Camp - The open Mallee Woodland environment is home to many animals that still use their original tracks through the camp, and over a hundred species of birds frequent the area. Recycled materials were used in the construction and furnishing of the campsite, giving it a tastefully rustic look. Kangaluna Camp has been developed by its owners from a life time of experience on how to best live in this environment and dry climate. Rain water is collected from the roofs and is the only water source. Techniques are used for its preservation but you still have private showers and flushing toilets.

The four-tiered Mitchell Falls is an iconic Kimberley attraction, and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Australia.

Also known as Punamii-Uunpuu to the Wunambal people, the falls were carved through sandstone by the waters of the Mitchell River, producing layers of mesmerising emerald water pools from which the waters tumble from one to the next.

These impressive waterfalls can be viewed by air on our air touring safaris that venture into the pristine Kimberley region .... Mitchell Falls will be an unforgettable experience!
