We have a juicy catch-up post for you all tonight. From foggy sci-fi night hike scenes to sunshiny winter days, we've been making the most of trail time!

Last Friday's Full Moon Hike at Mt Osmond was fully booked and despite the heavy fog and slippy patches, we had a happy group with Ian and Rod leading the way 🥾

By the following morning, all the fog had cleared, and the native wildlife came out to enjoy the sunshine at Belair, along with Gill and a few of our Flinders Ranges Heysen Trail Adventurers. This 7-day tour kicks off in just over a month and covers the final 5 northern sections of the Heysen Trail. Training walks are off to a strong start, and our group managed 13km over 4 hours. They'll be raring to go by their August 22nd departure 💪

And Sunday saw the final stage of our Yurrebilla Trail Series for 2025. Lisa and Ian put on a marvellous spread for morning tea as usual, while Colleen led our group throughout the 21ish km. From Norton Summit, through Morialta Conservation Park and up, up, up the mighty Black Hill to Athelstone. They had perfect hiking weather, and there were some tired but satisfied walkers finishing the day 🙌

Thanks to everyone who joined us for these events!

Umm, WOW!! Nature is astounding 🐸💚

"The Alaskan Wood Frog – Nature’s Frozen Wonder

Every winter, the Alaskan wood frog performs one of the most extraordinary survival feats in the animal kingdom.

As temperatures plummet, this small frog doesn’t burrow deep underground or seek shelter. Instead, it allows itself to freeze completely.

Its heart stops beating, lungs cease breathing, and brain activity halts—by all scientific definitions, it’s dead.

But it’s not.

Thanks to a natural antifreeze trick, it floods its cells with glucose, preventing ice from forming inside them. This sugary shield protects its vital organs while the rest of its body freezes solid.

When spring returns and temperatures rise, the frog thaws out—its heart starts beating again, its brain reactivates, and within hours, it’s hopping around like nothing ever happened.

A real-life resurrection… courtesy of evolution."

The lovely Linda led an equally lovely group along Stage 2 of our Yurrebilla Trail Series last Sunday. It was such a beautiful day to be out on the trail - perfect hiking weather!! Lisa and Ian met them for morning tea at the top of Pillbox Track in the northeastern corner of Cleland National Park, and as usual, there were no complaints about the goodies provided 🤣 The raspberry and chocolate brownies were a winner!! 😋🤣

Then on they went towards Norton Summit for a total of around 19km, starting from Eagle on the Hill and making their way through Cleland National Park, Horsnell Gully and Giles Conservation Park.

What an effort! What a team 💪 Well done to all, and thank you for joining us!

We'll walk the final stage in this series this coming Sunday - from Norton Summit to Athelstone 🥾

Stage 3 is fully booked, but join our waitlist and we'll let you know if there's a cancellation.

Since the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park is NPWSSA's Park of the Month for July, we’re highlighting one of the lesser-traversed trails for today's Top Trail.

🥾 Malloga Falls Hike 🥾

This epic 9-hour return Grade 4, hard hike takes in both Malloga Falls and Edeowie Gorge and is so worth doing if you're up to the challenge! It's a remote trail, so be sensible and prepared with all the necessary safety measures in place before you set out. You also need to notify Wilpena Visitor Centre staff and have a bit of navigation experience 🧭

Who's done it?

As always, Walking SA has awesome info on their website, including lots more trail pics!
