🌿🦃 We've got a very busy resident at the Agnes Water Visitor Information Centre! 🦃🌿

If you've visited us lately, you may have noticed a rather determined Australian Brush-turkey (or bush turkey!) hard at work building a nesting mound.

This isn't just a pile of leaves... it's actually nature's incubator!

🍂 It takes the male around a month to build his impressive mound.
🌡️ He carefully manages the temperature, keeping it between 33–35°C using the heat created by composting leaves.
🥚 Females visit to lay their eggs before leaving the male to do all the hard work
🐣 About 50 days later, the chicks dig themselves out of the mound and are ready to take on the world - all without any help from Mum or Dad!

It's one of Australia's most fascinating breeding strategies, and we're lucky enough to watch it happening right here at our VIC.

If you're calling in for local tips, maps or inspiration for your stay, be sure to keep an eye out for our feathered landscaper - but please remember to admire him from a respectful distance and avoid disturbing his hard work. 💚You can pick up a fun fact sheet while you visit.

Celebrating these wonderful volunteers for 2026 Volunteer Week & a beautiful afternoon at 1770 Eco Camp & Grasstrees. Thank you once again to the crew for hosting us, showing us around & spending time with the ladies doing some Meditation.

🐣 Easter Opening Hours 🐣

With Easter just around the corner, we wanted to let you know when you can pop in and see us over the long weekend:

✨ Good Friday (3 April): Closed
✨ Easter Saturday (4 April): 9am – 1pm
✨ Easter Sunday (5 April): 9am – 1pm
✨ Easter Monday (6th April): 9am – 1pm

We rely on our wonderful volunteers to keep our doors open, so from time to time unexpected changes may occur and we may need to close without notice. We appreciate your understanding 💛

All other days throughout the school holidays will remain as usual.

Happening this Wednesday 18th - our community needs you!

ANZAC DAY Community Meeting.
Hello Wonderful Community,
A community meeting will be held at the Tavern starting at 5pm, Wednesday 18th of March.
The meeting will outline the schedule for ANZAC Day activities and order of march for the community service. We will call for volunteers to assist in setting up and packing up, as well as raffle support and volunteer roles on the day.
For everyone that wants to participate in this great day please attend our community meeting.

We are currently assisting with the activation of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) and urgently require photos of flood-affected businesses in our region.

If you have any photos that clearly show direct flood impacts to a business or office premises (not roads or general flooding), please post on comments with location and date/time

We had some lovely ladies pop into the Centre today to show off their gorgeous festival hats by Jen Coral Creations Whitsundays — and don’t they look amazing! ✨🎩

Festival-ready and full of smiles, they picked up their program and checked out the shuttle bus location before the big weekend ahead.

We love seeing the excitement building around town! 💙

🌟 Celebrating Our Amazing Agnes Water G.A.P.D.L Volunteers! 🌟

Last Friday night, we had the absolute pleasure of spoiling our incredible volunteers at the 1770 Marina. We kicked off at The Bookshelf 1770, where everyone got to use their special vouchers to pick out a book (or three!) and explore the space - many were pleasantly surprised, as some hadn’t visited before. 📚✨

Next, we enjoyed delicious Portuguese cuisine at Barraca By The Sea, sharing great conversation, plenty of laughs, and a wonderful belated 80th birthday celebration for our longest-serving volunteer, Carolyn. 🎉💛

It was a night filled with gratitude for all these amazing ladies do for our community - and a big thank you to the men for sharing their wives with us! 💕

We couldn’t be more thankful for our volunteers — you truly make the centre, the region and community shine.

💛 Community is everything 💛

Over the past few months, we’ve been quietly working on improving the working space at the Visitor Centre so it’s more functional for our team and volunteers. Before Christmas, we were lucky enough to purchase some solid shelving from Bernie at the Homewares when she sadly closed her doors - a small way of keeping local pieces local.

The shelving, however, was big, heavy and awkward… and that’s where community stepped in.

Buildrite QLD Pty Ltd. generously provided a truck and some serious muscle to help move and install it — completely free of charge. No invoices, no expectations. Just people helping because they could.

I might be a little biased, but this is what makes a community strong. Supporting one another, understanding that what goes around comes around and stepping up when it’s needed - even when it’s not your own business.

A huge thank you to John and Noni Smith and the Buildrite team for their generosity and kindness. It truly makes a difference, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

This is exactly the kind of community we’re proud to be part of 💙
