A piece of Airlie Apartments history has been lost this week.
The original owner and developer of the poolside apartments has passed away. Herb Secomb and his wife Mae built Airlie Apartments in 1974. His family have visited over the years and reminisced where they lived as children and built the family business.
I had met Herb a few times and he was proud of Airlie Apartments. I have many photos and drawings from the early years. The apartments are built strong and have survived many cyclones, just like Herb.
Herb would have been 98 years this month.
RIP Herb and thank you for our piece of history.
Our condolences to his wife Mae and family.

If you are an experienced cleaner and are able to work 9am - 3pm approximately, we can offer 15-20 hours per week with some weekends included. If you enjoy gardening, cleaning the pool and reception duties, I can add on extra hours. Happy to train the right person if you are confident and dedicated to working.
We do work in a team to help each other.

Today I saw a man distributing poppies stop a lady and ask if he could reposition her poppy. While doing so he told that lady she should wear the poppy on her left side (over her heart); the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them.
