Albany Ocean Adventures

Albany Ocean Adventures 28 years Whale Watching and scenic cruises on the south coast of Western Australia Operating since 1990 under the name of "Silver Star Cruises".

With our new marina we have renamed the business with a name "Albany Ocean Adventures" operating whale watching, scenic, and dive tours from Albany on the south coast of Western Australia. The largest, fastest and most comfortable vessel operating in Albany, we take pride in the service we offer. If there is a whale in the area I am very sure we will find it.

This mornings cruises we had a whale breaching and head lunging close enough for passengers to get good pictures however it was a bit choppy out on the line. We left these whales as they continued west and headed towards the north side of Breaksea Island. No Humpbacks traveling between the Islands so we continue to Nanarup Beach hoping to find a couple of Southern Right whales in the area.
We head out at 1pm with our afternoon cruise and this time because of the number of children aboard we stay in calmer waters of King Gorge Sound and with no luck finding whales in Frenchman Bay again we make our way to the north side of Breaksea Island. After checking out the New Zealand fur seals I spot blows and breaches east of our position. Still we are protected by the island enough to find a Southern Right whale that is traveling west towards us and breaching as it does. When it turns and heads to travel south of Breaksea we leave and head towards Goode Beach. As we are cruising west I spot blows over towards Michaelmas Island. We find a very small Humpback calf that is happy to do head lunges several times close to the boat. We follow to the western end of the islands then leave mother and baby on their journey.

Cruising past Seal Rock we spot blows some 1km NE and when the whales surface again we have a Humpback cow and calf heading towards Goode Beach. We follow as they set a good pace getting close to the beach and turning left to head towards Albany's Historic Whaling Station. We leave mother and baby and head out towards Albany's Humpback Highway. Arriving we see 2 blows as they disappear around Bald Head. We head east and see several pods spread over the area ahead. As is the norm some times, whales seem to all become active at the same time or they can become quiet. We had to cruise around for a little while but then whale started breaching all around us some close and some off in the distance. We followed a pod of 3 small whales that really put on a show, breaching and tail slapping.

Great day with word of a Southern Right whale just off Marine Drive coming through even before we had even left the marina. We caught up with a lone SR astern of the ship at anchor off Basket Bay. As SR whales are pretty quiet at the start of the season we headed out to find some Humpbacks with a heart beat. We find several whales out on the Humpback Highway (the area out between Bald Head and Breaksea Island) but they are being a little elusive. Then we start to see breaches east of where we are. One small HB is putting on a show close to Breaksea of course. But with the energy he was showing we had to get close. And our persistence was rewarded when our whale breached from where we got to him half way along Breaksea until we left him about 45 minutes later as he was close to Bald Head.
Now to get to the photos uploaded.
These pics come from just 2 breaches, remember I still have to drive the boat so you the passenger can get the best view possible.
