A quick report from the past couple of days:
We had some wonderful encounters with numerous humpbacks on both Monday's and today's tour.
Yesterday we had a few whales in the sound, which made for some early, but slightly "standoffish" encounters, before heading further out, where we found some very sociable whales, that seemed to enjoy our company so much, they joined us for quite a while, before heading out and off on their migration west (and ultimately north)! We witnessed a close breach, lunge and some tail slapping before heading home full of admiration for these giants!
Today was a little different - no whales in the sound, but frequent breaching out on the line. When we got there, we caught up with some mother calf pairs, at least two this years calves and some other juveniles. These were wonderful to watch, as they surfaced frequently and seemed unphased by our company. We sailed along with them for a little while before turning back to catch up with more whales, which we knew were following us. We witnessed one whale repeatedly tail slapping, before another whale breached off in the distance. On turning towards the breaching whale, all of a sudden there seemed to be breaches all around from whales we hadn't even known were there. All too far to call "close encounters", but close enough to clearly see the whale causing the splash 🐋
We headed home, distracted by more whales popping up around us and reckon all up, there would have been 30 odd humpback sightings out there today!
If you were on one of our tours recently (or not so recently) we would love to see some of your photos, as we rarely get the chance to take photos ourselves - and if you want to be part of one of these amazing adventures, give us a call or message us, or just book a tour online via our website!
Looking forward to see you out there!
