Wow!!! Just received these beautiful pics from Kylie & Stuart who have just returned from a dream getaway to Maldives. Baros Island Resort certainly didn’t disappoint! Our last day on tour we made the 6 hour drive from Nuwara Eliya to Colombo. On arrival in Colombo we did a city tour followed by our farewell dinner at a lovely restaurant. After dinner tried our luck at Majestic casino within the Lotus Tower complex, had a little win. Our stay in Colombo at The Kingsbury, great hotel located near the Port of Colombo.

Drive from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya today with a stop at a tea factory with some lovely tea and delicious tea cake.

On arrival at one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever seen we enjoyed high tea at the Grand Hotel where we are fortunate for a 1 night stay! The gardens alone are simply stunning.

Visit to a tea and spice plantation, yes we are wearing leech protection. What a fantastic tour then feeding of the goats and a 32 dish lunch which was absolutely delicious. My favorite so far, so much variety. First try of another variety of bananas, red. Very nice! A bit of shopping in Kandy which is a very busy city then relax at the hotel for the afternoon/evening.

Left Dambulla to Kandy via a spice plantation which was very interesting. Our guide was fantastic and enjoyed a local lunch here before arriving into Kandy. We visited the temple of the tooth. This temple enshrines the sacred left canine tooth of lord Buddha. Our hotel in Kandy Thilanka is beautiful and we will enjoy here for 2 nights.

Another great day in this beautiful country! Visit to Polonnaruwa Ancient Site by bike which was fun but very hot! Those in our group that didn’t ride accompanied us in the coach trailing behind. Fascinating to see a rock temple featuring 4 Buddha statues carved out of one single piece of granite.

Lunch consisted of a Dahl cooking demonstration and local food, again delicious. After lunch a visit to Kavudulla National Park in jeeps where we sighted some animals like eagles, owls, monkeys, water buffalo, jackals and my absolute favorite…elephants!

Up bright and early to beat the heat to visit the UNESCO world heritage site Sigiriya - Lion Rock. 1200 steps which was challenging but I am so happy to make it to the summit! Spectacular views! Back to the hotel for breakfast then pottery experience, local house for lunch which was delicious and free time in the afternoon.

Enroute from Negombo to Dambulla we stopped by Ridi Viharaya (Silver temple) which was a beautiful temple. Cinnamon tea and then local restaurant for lunch with divine local food. 4-5 hours all up travel time today where we arrived at our hotel Amaya Hills Dambulla which is gorgeous.

Afternoon free. Our leader asked if we’d like to see a local fruit/veg market! It was absolutely crazy! Trucks, tuk tuks strange looks and loads of food!!! It was so interesting seeing how they trade!

Left Sydney for our almost 11 hour flight with Sri Lanka Airlines. Definitely no complaints about the cleanliness, food and service. Arrived Australian time at 3am, straight to our beautiful hotel in Negombo for a good nights sleep!

Up for a great breakfast in our hotel Jetwing Beach, quick look around and delicious lunch at Twilight Moon. Negombo is renowned for its seafood and it didn’t disappoint.

Our tuk tuk city tour started at 2.30 and we visited St Mary’s (Roman Catholic) church, Angurukaramulla Buddhist temple, fish markets, Dutch canal, the lagoon, fruit market and tea/spice shop!

At 6pm a welcome dinner and we met our Intrepid tour leader where 8 of us will be traveling with Intrepid on a tailor made premium tour which we are all very excited for. Stay tuned for more posts soon 🇱🇰
