Don't you love when your phone pops up with a happy travel memory that completely transports you back in time? This happened to me recently, so I thought I would share my memories of this special trip with you 🗺️

Almost exactly 10 years ago, I was lucky enough to be part of the inaugural sailing of the Scenic Amber, cruising the Danube from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria
While I had already travelled to much of Germany, this specific pocket was new to me and completely stole my heart ❤️

​📍My favourite stop was a picture-perfect town called Dürnstein. My ideal travel day involves wandering down quaint, cobblestone streets and trying local produce. I had some of the best apricot products and Riesling wine, which this stunning area is famous for.

🚢 As for the cruise itself, Scenic’s 5 star luxury was incomparable to any way I had travelled before. My inner backpacker saw a completely different side of travel, and to be honest, I think I was ruined from that moment on!

🥂 It is truly all-inclusive, you do not need to put your hand in your pocket, or even pick up your towel. By day two, my butler knew how I took my morning cup of tea, and the bartender knew what wine to offer.

🥘The food was also exceptional. It was incredible how they sourced fresh local produce from the ports we visited to incorporate into our meals, perfectly paired with local wines.

Even though I was on a boat, I never felt 'stuck'. We mostly traveled overnight or sailed between small towns during lunch.
In some places, you could borrow the complimentary ebikes and ride along the river to the next docking town, or just relax on the upper deck with a glass of wine and watch the incredible scenery roll by.

Late last year, my primary school's time capsule was dug up, 25 years after I wrote this letter to future Ellie 💌

While I absolutely do NOT have 9 children​ (cackling!!), and being ‘rich’ is more of a state of mind​, it ​was so uplifting to also read:

“In the future I'd like...to travel to America, England, Ireland, Germany and Japan.”

There’s something really special about looking back​ know​ing that 8 year old Ellie would be ​excited that she made it to almost all of her travel destinations​. Japan next year will tick the last one!

Face your fears, even if you’re doing it in a downpour ⛈️

Throwing it back to 2017 at Victoria Falls. Watching this video, I can still feel the nerves! It was pouring rain, and as someone terrified of heights, I second-guessed every life choice that led me to that platform.

Despite the nerves, I took the leap and it remains one of the experiences I am most proud of. Sometimes the best travel memories aren’t the 'perfect' sunny days- they’re the moments you push yourself way outside your comfort zone.

A big shout out to The Africa Safari Co. who I travelled with & made my experience unforgettable!

They say the best travel tips aren't found in guidebooks, they’re found in conversation 😊

While on a wine tour of Côtes du Rhône in 2024, I met an American traveler who had just come from Annecy. One of her must-do recommendations? A local bakery called Aristide 👩‍🍳

Fast forward to my arrival in Annecy: Not only did I find the bakery, but our hotel was located directly across the street. Talk about travel kismet!

I can honestly say these were the best croissants and pain au chocolat I’ve ever had. Buttery, shatteringly flaky, and lamination that belongs in a museum 🥐

Paired with a view of Lake Annecy, it was the kind of slow, perfect morning that reminds me why I fell in love with travel in the first place.
