We found this little one resting on the beach recently looking so lonely 🦭😢

After calling wildlife rescue, we learned something beautiful — mum seals actually choose a safe spot on the shore to leave their pup while they head out to sea to hunt. In winter, she can be gone for up to a week.

So if you ever come across a seal pup on the sand, even if they’re crying, their mum hasn’t abandoned them. She’s coming back — and when she does, she calls out and can recognize her own pup’s voice, even if it’s among hundreds.

The best thing you can do? Keep your distance, keep dogs away, make sure the area is clear of any rubbish or fishing lines and let them be. If you’re worried, call Wildlife Victoria on 13000 94535💛

The Great Ocean Walk starts at the Information Centre in Apollo Bay.
🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️Just walk behind the trail head platform onto the beach for your first wonderful view! (The first of many)😄 And take note of the wonderful sculptures too. Brad, one of our much loved drivers, designed and made many of them himself!! 👏
A wonderful start to your adventure!

Kangaroo or wallaby? Here’s the easy way to tell them apart. 🦘
Roos are bigger, lighter, and hang out in mobs on the open grass.
Wallabies are smaller, darker, and keep to the forest on their own.
But which one gets kicked out of its own family?
Watch and find out.😄

If you are walking to Johanna Beach on the magnificent Great Ocean Walk, there are a couple of things to remember …

1. Check the tides. And if the river crossing is high (occasionally) you may have to walk back all the way back to Castle Cove!

2. Remember if you are arranging to get picked up from Johanna Lookout….there are 2! And there are 2 car parks. So make sure you are at the right decision point. These are marked on the official great ocean walk map.

Did you know you can run the Great Ocean Walk as well as the Great Ocean Road?!
Whilst we are loving the marathon this weekend, we also support runners whose goal is to run the magnificent Great Ocean Walk trail.

We offer bag transfers, shuttles, accommodation and food. But most importantly we are the support crew, ready to come and pick up anyone who can’t quite run as far as they had hoped 🏃
🏃‍♀️
The trail is 104km and runners like doing this over 3 days, but you can take as long as you like and you don’t need to run that far.
Just get in touch with us and we can help plan your perfect itinerary.

For more information also check out our blog. Did you know that this region’s connection to Australia’s running heritage goes far deeper, thanks to one remarkable man: Cliff Young.

A humble potato farmer from Beech Forest, high in the Otways, Cliff became an unlikely national hero when, at the age of 61, he won the inaugural Sydney to Melbourne Ultramarathon in 1983 — a gruelling 875 km race that pushed athletes to their limits.
