There’s a new trend that is quickly becoming one of our favourite sources of inspiration when it comes to planning memorable holidays. The ‘skillcation,’ as the name suggests, is what happens when your travel plans collaborate with your hobbies, passions or interests. Whether you are indulging an existing pastime or learning a new skill, we’ve got you covered with our beginner’s guide to the art of the skillcation.

What is a skillcation?
A skillcation is a fresh way to immerse yourself in a destination while gaining firsthand experience in your chosen area of interest. Maybe you’ve always dreamed of an extended family escape at a villa in Tuscany, where you can all feast on fresh pasta made by your own inexpert hands. Or perhaps you will sign up for private lessons at the birthplace of surfing: Waikiki Beach.

Why go on a skillcation?
Regardless of the skill you choose to indulge, the skillcation is all about personal growth, engagement with the local environment or community, and creating memories while learning or perfecting a particular skill.
