For Creswick artist Chelle Destefano, sound is not just a landscape for hearing.

Through time, space and memory, the deaf artist visually represents her experience of sound before she lost her hearing completely at the age of nine.

A set of Chelle's drawings titled 'Aural transferences' express her personal perspective.

The black and dark-coloured backgrounds are chosen for being like a veil obscuring the sound, not knowing what the sounds are.

The multicoloured keys were inspired by a photograph taken of a rainbow against a dark, stormy sky, which then became the visual device for transferring her memories onto paper.

'Aural transferences' is now on show at the Art Gallery of Ballarat's Backspace Gallery (43 Mair St) until 1 November.

For the fourth year in a row, Renard has made the list of Victoria's top 50 bars.

The Ballarat nightspot came in at number 47 in Boothby's Best Vic Bars 2026.

"Owners Teddy and Louis Powlett have imbued Renard with a very simple mission: to provide good times to the people. And their chosen delivery vehicle for such good times? Cocktails and wine, my friends," according to the Aussie media brand.

This Wootten x Sherrin Australia collab puts a whole different spin on "new kicks".

The Ballarat bootmaker has partnered with the iconic Melbourne football manufacturer to create the Lo-Dubs Wootten x Sherrin Sneaker.

Each pair incorporates a footy that would have otherwise been sent to landfill, along with other locally tanned bovine leather.
