Way Back Wednesday . . .
The Glideaway Skating Rink.
Located in Howick Street, the Glideaway Skating Rink was operated by Professor W Eckard and C W Watts. They held their grand opening on Saturday 8 February 1913 advertising sparkling music by a full orchestra band, exhibition of fancy tricks by Professor Eckhard, private lessons and that the new method of ventilation made the Glideaway as cool as any open-air rink.
Professor W. Eckard was an endurance roller famous for setting world records for continuous skating.
