Day 17 and 18 of our Sri Lanka adventure began once again with a lovely breakfast, followed by a two-hour tuk tuk tour around Colombo. One of our first stops was the art gallery café where Duran Duran filmed their iconic music video for Hungry Like the Wolf.

We then explored the old market centre, which was incredibly busy due to the upcoming New Year celebrations. While there, we sampled some traditional Sri Lankan sweets, adding a delicious cultural touch to the experience.

Another deeply moving stop was the church that was bombed, where so many people lost their lives. It was a confronting and emotional visit that left a lasting impression on all of us.
After the tuk tuk tour, some of the group went gem shopping, while others chose to relax by the hotel pool and begin packing for our journey home.

Our final evening was truly special—dinner by the ocean, watching a beautiful sunset while enjoying a four-course meal.

Later that night, we headed to the airport for our flight home. Upon arriving in Sydney, our Hummer and driver were waiting to greet us, taking us back to Berry in style.

Day 16 of our Sri Lanka adventure began with a great breakfast before we all headed to Colombo. Along the way, we couldn’t resist stopping to buy pillows, sheets, and pillow protectors—Sri Lanka has the most beautiful bed linen, and it’s so affordable compared to Australia.

We then checked into Sri Lanka’s oldest hotel, the iconic Galle Face. The afternoon was perfectly relaxed, with some enjoying a swim while others took it easy before indulging in high tea on the veranda. Safe to say, after that experience, dinner was definitely not needed!

To top off the day, we were treated to the most beautiful sunset over the ocean, with our historic hotel as the backdrop. Truly a perfect end to the day.

Day 15 of our Sri Lanka adventure began with a lovely breakfast, followed by a fascinating talk from a local guide on the history of Fort Galle.
We then set off on a fun tuk tuk tour around the town, including a visit to the Galle Cricket Club, where we were lucky enough to catch a game with a visiting team from Australia.
The rest of the afternoon was ours to enjoy at a leisurely pace—some of us explored the shops, others took a swim, and everyone made the most of the chance to relax.
At 5pm, we headed to the beautiful and historic Amangalla for pre-dinner drinks. Pimm’s was the drink of choice, perfectly matching the hotel’s timeless charm.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a fantastic seafood feast at a local restaurant, rounding off what had truly been a wonderful day.

Day 14 of our Sri Lanka adventure started bright and early with a 6am game drive 🌅. Those who headed out were rewarded with a truly spectacular morning in the wild. We were on the lookout for the elusive sloth bear, but it managed to stay hidden this time! 🐻
That said, the park didn’t disappoint. We spotted plenty of incredible birds and animals, including a few rare sightings we hadn’t experienced before 🐾🦜

After breakfast, we checked out and made our way to the historic Galle Fort, a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site full of charm and history. The afternoon gave us some well-earned free time to relax, swim, or explore the local shops.

We wrapped up the day with a beautiful Moroccan-inspired dinner, the perfect ending to another unforgettable chapter of our journey ✨🍽️

Day 13 of our Sri Lanka adventure began with another early 6am start as we headed back to Yala National Park. The sunrise was absolutely spectacular and well worth the early wake-up. We were lucky enough to spot more elephants, and even a leopard perched high up on a rock—an incredible sight. One of the highlights was an amazing waterhole, alive with birds and feeding crocodiles, creating a real sense of the wild.
After the excitement of the morning, we returned for another great breakfast before enjoying a more relaxed pace. Some of the group spent time swimming in their private pools or the main pool, while others took part in a cooking class with the chef. I chose to unwind by our pool, where I spent some time again with our now familiar resident squirrel.
In the afternoon, we climbed back into the jeeps for another game drive, making the most of our time in this beautiful park.
Dinner that evening was just fantastic with freshly caught lobster and it was made extra special as Jenny from our group was surprised with a birthday cake—such a lovely way to end another fantastic day.

Day 12 of our Sri Lanka adventure… all I can say is WOW.

We were up early, heading out from our resort to Yala National Park at 6am. The morning safari was filled with wonderful bird sightings, along with a brief glimpse of an elephant but no leopards this time.

We returned to our beautiful resort for a relaxed breakfast, followed by some time swimming and unwinding before our afternoon safari.

At 3pm, we headed back into Yala and oh my gosh, what an incredible experience. We were lucky enough to spend over half an hour watching a young male leopard resting and observing us just as curiously. It was truly unforgettable.

As if that wasn’t enough, we then spent sunset with a herd of female elephants and their babies. Watching them together in that golden light was simply magical.

Dinner that evening was set under the stars on the beach, a perfect way to end a truly spectacular day.
