My personal favourite of all the cruises Lady Mac has to offer would have to be the Loop of the Lake cruise, and it’s easy to see why. This relaxing day on the water aboard the Lady Mac is a great day for crew and customers alike. The Lady Mac takes you on a circuit of Lake Macquarie's Northern section, gliding past Marmong Point, Bolton Point, Toronto, Wangi Wangi, and around Pulbah Island before returning via Murrays Beach. And who could forget about the food! A Devonshire tea, Lunch and Dessert all wrapped into a 4.5 hour cruise, is there a better way to spend a Sunday?

One of the topics we cover during our cruises on board the Lady Mac is the infamous Carey Bay Zoo, which operated from 1944 to 1958. This Zoo established by Thomas Brown featured many animals, including but not limited to; Wombats, Snakes, Deer, A talking duck named Percy, and tassie devils. Exotic animals were owned during Reg and Angela Ward’s ownership from 1951 which included an African Tortoise, Lions and Monkey’s.
The Carey Bay zoo was referred to as a very hands-on zoo, which may have also contributed to its unfortunate demise. The Lion named Nero ‘regularly amused himself by frightening the pants off lakeside zoo visitors by leaping at his cage bar’ according to the Newcastle Herald. One of the more well known incidents- was a case of Jimmy the Monkey biting a customers finger during an attempt to feed Jimmy, this later resulted in the right little finger having to be partially amputated. All was not lost for the customer as they were awarded 360 pounds- the spending equivalent of around $15,000 today. The Zoo closed down in 1958 due to the fluctuating financials of the business, with long hours required for the upkeep of the Zoo. The zoo is now what is known as Paradise Palms.
