If you’ve visited Tae Rak Café lately, you may have noticed a few changes on the menu, thanks to our new Chef, Fern.

We’re delighted to welcome Fern Jones to the team. She brings a thoughtful, grounded presence to the kitchen, along with a fresh, seasonal approach that leans into bushland flavours and native ingredients, while still keeping the café’s much loved favourites.

As a trained chocolatier, Fern has also introduced a selection of handcrafted chocolates, adding a little something extra to your visit.

🍃During National Reconciliation Week, thanks to some talented young artists, visitors to Tae Rak Cafe have been enjoying something a little extra special.

We would like to say a big thank you to the young artists from South Primary School whose designs featured on our coffee cups this week. Our rangers, tour guides and visitors have loved starting their day with these artworks in hand.

We have especially enjoyed reading the meaning behind each piece and seeing how these stories connect to Budj Bim and Country.

A big thank you to Nate, Digby and Prisha for sharing their creativity and stories:

Nate (Age 7) shares,
“The Gunditjmara people are trying to catch Kooyong so that they can cook it for dinner.”

Digby (Age 7) reflects,
“Sun is shining bright on Gunditjmara land, helping the eels to swim, eat and play.”
Prisha (Age 7) tells,

“The river was created by volcanic rocks from Budj Bim. The flowers grew, the trees grew and the fish came to the river.”

🍃 Recently, we welcomed a group from Glenelg Shire Council, including the Mayor and Councillors, to the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape.

Guided on Country, the group spent time learning about culture, history and this extraordinary landscape, gaining insight into the ancient aquaculture system and the living culture of Gunditjmara people, who have cared for and shaped this Country for thousands of years.

The experience continued at Tae Rak Café, where local flavours were shared, deepening connection to place and understanding of this living cultural landscape.

It was a time to listen. To learn. To see the landscape through a different lens.

We thank Glenelg Shire Council for taking the time to visit, and our team for sharing knowledge and creating a meaningful experience.
