If I could pack a bag and go tomorrow, I think I’d stay a little closer to home this time.

A few days in the Scenic Rim staying in a cosy cabin surrounded by vineyards, with good food and wine nearby, sounds pretty appealing right now.

This time of year, is especially lovely out there with the Scenic Rim Eat Local Month happening. Long lunches, cooking classes, farm gate experiences and some very tempting local produce.

I think it's easy to forget sometimes that you don’t always have to travel internationally to feel like you’ve had a proper getaway.

It’s also a great option for people who enjoy food and wine experiences without the long flights and airport queues that can come with bigger trips.

And while we might not exactly be in roaring-fireplace weather yet, I still wouldn’t say no to one and a glass of red.

I’m seeing more interest in rail travel lately, particularly from people wanting less airport stress and a slower style of holiday.

I really enjoyed the rail sections of my NZ trip late last year. It’s a very different way to travel when you can simply sit back, enjoy the scenery and let the journey become part of the holiday itself.

Places like Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia and Japan continue to be very popular for rail travel, particularly for travellers wanting to see multiple regions without constantly unpacking and repacking every couple of days.

When they’re planned well, rail holidays can also offer very good value once you factor in city-centre arrivals, reduced transfers and the fact that the journey itself becomes part of the experience.

Some rail packages that landed in my inbox this week include:

• Lake Como and the Swiss Alps
• Glacier Express Excellence Class in Switzerland
• Scandinavia in a Nutshell
• Japan by Rail
• Rocky Mountaineer through Canada

One thing I do find is that rail travel works best when the pacing, luggage and connection times are thought through properly beforehand. Not everyone wants to sprint through Europe dragging a suitcase behind them.

If rail travel has been on your list, I’m always happy to talk through the different options and what might suit you best.

For the sports lovers! A few major sporting events are already filling quickly for 2026 and beyond, especially where ticket and hospitality allocations are limited.

If you have been thinking about planning a sports trip around a major event, now is a good time to look at your options.

Current packages include:
• Melbourne Cup Carnival 2026
• NFL Melbourne Game 2026
• Rugby World Cup Australia 2027
• MotoGP Phillip Island 2026
• Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix 2026

Most packages include accommodation, official tickets and a range of extras, depending on the event.

One thing I always recommend with these trips is looking beyond just the ticket. Accommodation location, transfers, event timing, rest days and flexibility can make a big difference to the overall experience.

If any of these are on your list, I’m always happy to talk through the options and help you work out what might suit best.

Rugby League fans… this one might be worth putting on the list. 🏉🎰

The NRL has confirmed the 2027 Las Vegas fixtures, with three games across the weekend including:

• Melbourne Storm vs Wests Tigers
• Parramatta Eels vs Gold Coast Titans
• Bradford Bulls vs Leigh Leopards

The games will be played in Las Vegas on Saturday 27 February 2027, with escorted tour packages expected to run from 22 February to 1 March.

And for Balmain Tigers fans, the tour will also be hosted by Tigers legend Paul Sironen.

Las Vegas has turned into quite the event for league supporters over the last few years, combining the football atmosphere with a few extra days to enjoy the city itself.

At this stage it’s still early days, but if this is something you’d be interested in, let me know and I can keep you updated as more details are released.

One of the biggest parts of my job isn’t just booking a trip… it’s helping people work out whether the trip is actually the right fit for them.

I’ve recently been helping clients prepare for a 15-day New Zealand tour, and a lot of our conversations have been around the practical side of travel:
• Walking distances
• Uneven ground
• How long days are
• Coach and train travel times
• Optional activities
• What you can skip if needed
• Whether the pace will suit them

That sort of detail makes a big difference, especially on longer touring holidays.

This particular itinerary includes:
• The TranzAlpine and Coastal Pacific scenic rail journeys
• Milford Sound by helicopter and cruise
• Mt Cook and glacier experiences
• Queenstown and Wanaka
• Whale watching in Kaikōura
• Historic hotels, farm experiences and some incredible scenery throughout the South Island

It’s a beautiful trip, but it’s also quite active in parts, which is exactly why these conversations matter before booking.

I think people enjoy travelling more when they know what to expect and feel properly prepared for it.

That’s often where working with an experienced travel agent can really help.

If you’re considering a tour holiday and aren’t sure what style or pace would suit you best, I’m always happy to talk it through.

Tropical holiday anyone? 🌴

Tahiti Tourisme hosted a Tahiti and French Polynesia training evening this week, showcasing the clear lagoons, overwater bungalows and slower South Pacific pace the islands are known for. A destination you should definitely consider if you are wanting to truly unwind.

From Brisbane, you can travel via Auckland or Sydney into Papeete, then connect between the islands with short flights or ferries.

French Polynesia isn’t just for honeymooners either. It can suit:
• Couples wanting a relaxing island escape
• Families looking for a tropical holiday with plenty of water-based activities
• Travellers wanting a slower pace
• Adventure travellers interested in snorkelling, hiking and lagoon tours

Bora Bora is the famous name, but Moorea was one of the islands featured during the presentation.

Mountain scenery, waterfalls, local food experiences, cultural tours and easy access to the water all part of the appeal.

Some of the experiences highlighted included:
• Lagoon cruises and snorkelling
• Rainforest and waterfall tours
• Wellness retreats and yoga
• Overwater bungalow stays
• Easy island hopping between Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora

The dry season between May and October is generally considered one of the best times to visit, with warm days and lower humidity.

There are also some good package offers around at the moment, including combinations of flights, accommodation, breakfasts, transfers and touring (with many current offers available until 12 June).

If Tahiti or French Polynesia has been on your list, I’d be very happy to help you work out which islands and style of trip would suit you best. 🌺

I mentioned Queensland Islands recently, and Heron Island is one that’s always a little bit special.

It’s right on the Great Barrier Reef, so you’re not travelling out to it each day… you’re already there. You can snorkel straight off the beach, which is something not many places can offer.

We've had some great offers for 2026 come in, including a good one for Queenslanders.

The locals offer includes:

☑ Discounted accommodation (from around $189 per person, per night twin share)
☑ Breakfast daily
☑ Half-price boat transfers to the island
☑ Snorkel gear included for your stay
☑ A sunset drink on one of the evenings
☑ Guided island walks
☑ Plus a discount on introductory scuba if you want to try it

It’s a quieter style of island stay. No big resort feel, just good access to the reef, simple comforts, and plenty to see and do if you want it.

If you were thinking about a Great Barrier Reef trip, this is one worth considering.

Happy to talk through whether it’s the right fit and how to plan it.

I shared a post a little while ago about one of my favourite places… Norfolk Island, and I’ve just come across some great travel deals for it as well.

Most are 7-night stays with flights included, along with:

☑ A number of local tours
☑ Car hire for the week
☑ Some meals depending on where you stay

With prices starting from around $2,699 per person, these packages are quite good value considering how much is included.

It’s one of those trips where everything is taken care of, so you can settle in and enjoy the island at your own pace.

If booking a holiday is on your to-do list, I’m happy to talk through the options and help you find the right fit.

I was at a South America travel evening this week, and it definitely got me thinking about a few trips I’d love to put together.

South America is still an adventurous destination, but it’s a lot more accessible and comfortable than people expect.

→ Getting there from Brisbane: You’re generally looking at one main connection (often via Auckland, Sydney, or Santiago), and then you’re into South America. From there, flights between countries are quite straightforward.

A few things I’d keep in mind:

→ It’s not one-size-fits-all. You can do South America a number of different ways

Small group touring (usually 12–16 people)
Tailor-made trips
River cruises in the Amazon
Higher-end expedition style travel

→ Peru is often the starting point. It’s one of the easiest countries to build a trip around Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Lima for food… and then you can add the Amazon quite easily.

→ The Amazon is an exciting addition. You’re not “roughing it” unless you want too of course.

Lodge stays accessed by boat
Small ship cruises (3–7 nights)
Options with more focus on wildlife or culture

→ Timing is important. Different seasons give you very different experiences.
Higher water = more cruising
Lower water = more walking and wildlife spotting

A lot of these trips are designed so they support local communities and guides along the way, which I really love.

It’s not a quick trip, and it’s not somewhere I’d book without considered planning. Getting the flights, timing and pace right makes all the difference for a great experience.

If it’s been sitting on your list, I’d be very happy to help you plan it.

(And to top it off… I also came home with a $200 Aztec voucher, so not a bad night all round 😄)

If I could pack a bag and head anywhere for a few days right now… Canberra would be high on the list.

It’s one of those places people don’t always think of straight away, but there’s a lot more to it than you might expect and everything is easy to get to once you’re there.

A few reasons it’s worth considering:

🎈 Hot air balloon flights over the city to start the day
🖼 National Gallery and Australian War Memorial for something cultural
🌳 The National Arboretum for views, gardens, and a great café
🍷 Long lunches and winery visits just out of town
🍽 A really good food scene, from relaxed cafés to standout restaurants and wine bars
🚤 Lake Burley Griffin experiences, including your own electric picnic boat
🌄 Views from Mount Ainslie, especially late afternoon

Best time to go?
Spring (September to November) is especially popular with the gardens and Floriade in bloom, while autumn (March to May) is also a great time with cooler weather and beautiful colours around the city.

It’s relaxed, easy to get around and works well for a long weekend or a short break.

If Canberra hasn’t been on your list for a while, it might be time to take another look.

I’d be very happy to help you plan it.
