👋 Founder Spotlight
Hi, I'm Shaun, the founder of Unbound RV.
I thought it was time to introduce myself and share a little about why Unbound RV exists.
🚐 Tell us a little about yourself
I'm Shaun. I am Dad to 3 awesome kids, and we love getting outdoors whenever we can. Whether it's camping, exploring a new destination or enjoying a weekend away, I believe some of life's best memories are made outdoors.
💡 What inspired you to create Unbound RV?
After five years in the caravan hire industry, I noticed a common theme—people loved the idea of owning a caravan, but many couldn't justify the cost when it would spend most of the year parked in storage.
That inspired me to create Unbound RV. Our goal is to give people access to premium caravans and the freedom to explore Australia without the financial commitment and ongoing responsibilities of ownership. It's about making caravan travel more accessible while building a membership model that's sustainable for the long term.
❤️ What do you love most about caravan travel?
For me, it's all not just the destination, but also the drive. I like getting on the road, discovering new places and seeing the small towns along the way.
Travelling with kids isn't always perfect, feels like im pulling hair out, but seeing them explore new places, make friends and turn the simplest moments into unforgettable adventures is what makes caravanning so special to me
🌏 What's your favourite camping or caravan destination you've visited?
Still so much to see, but one of my favourites is local to us here in Brisbane. Flinders Beach on Stradbroke Island. It's easy to get to, can be secluded with not to many people and direct access to the beach.
⛺ If you could hook up one of our caravans tomorrow, where would you go?
Probably start going South, haven't had a lot of travel in coastal NSW but one trip I want to do, is to do a Sth Coast NSW and Vic High Country trip. Have't worked out the itinerary yet but it would be an awesome 3 week trip.
🤔 What's one thing people often don't realise about Caravanning?
I think people underestimate how much freedom caravanning gives you. You're not tied to hotel check-in times or rigid travel plans. If you find a place you love, you can stay a little longer. If you hear about a hidden beach or a great country pub, you can change your plans and go. That flexibility is what makes every trip unique.
🧰 What's one item you never leave home without on a camping trip?
Spare water bladder! My family has no concept of water usage! I carry a spare 200L water bladder in the car.
🚀 What excites you most about the future of Unbound RV?
I'm really excited about building more than just a caravan membership—I'm excited about building a community of people who love exploring Australia. I hope Unbound RV becomes a place where members share destinations, travel tips and stories, inspiring each other to discover somewhere new.
