Which Kimberley tour is right for you?

Now you have been able to compare Kimberley tours, which one is right for you — 7, 8 or 10 days?

All three of these tours departing from Broome share the same legendary core route: Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Fitzroy Crossing / Geikie Gorge, the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu), El Questro, and the best swimming gorges on the Gibb River Road.
The difference is how many bucket-list icons you add on top.

Extra days can also be added with relaxing days and nights in Broome for beach, poolsides, Pearl Farm

All Kimberley tours include walks that suit a moderate level of fitness and you can choose at the time to do or not. The Mitchell Falls walk on 8 or 10 day tours can be substituted with a helicopter flight.

The 7 Day Kimberley Tour — “The Classic Kimberley Greatest Hits”

Choose the 7 Day if you want the authentic Gibb River Road experience in a tight, high-value itinerary:

The key gorges, walks and swims
Bungles + El Questro highlights
A strong mix of scenery, culture and comfort
Ideal if you’re short on time, or doing Kimberley as part of a bigger WA trip

Best for: first-time Kimberley travellers, time-poor professionals, value-driven adventurers.
The 8 Day Kimberley Tour — “Add Mitchell Falls (the WOW day)”

Choose the 8 Day if you want everything in the 7 Day tour plus the iconic Mitchell Falls day:

Scenic flight from Broome to the Mitchell Plateau region
Guided walk, rock art/cultural context, swim opportunities
Helicopter scenic over the falls & gorge system

This is the most common “upgrade” because it adds a true once-in-a-lifetime highlight without extending into extra coastal tour days.

Best for: guests who want a standout hero experience (Mitchell Falls) without going all the way to 10 days.
The 10 Day Kimberley Tour — “The Ultimate Kimberley Bucket List”

Choose the 10 Day if you want the full Kimberley story — land, air, coast, and culture:

Everything in the 8 Day (including Mitchell Falls)
Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, Dampier Peninsula & Cape Leveque (when open) day
Horizontal Falls adventure (flight + on-water experience)

If you’re travelling a long way to get here, this is the version where you tick off the Kimberley’s most famous icons in one seamless package.

Best for: retirees / empty nesters doing a “big trip”, milestone birthdays/anniversaries, and travellers who want the full premium Kimberley experience.

Remembering David Unaipon: The Man On The Fifty Dollar Note

David Unaipon (born September 28, 1872, Point McLeay Mission, South Australia, Australia—died February 7, 1967, Tailem Bend, South Australia)

He’s the wry-smiling Aboriginal man on the Australian $50 note, collar folded like a paper aeroplane — but how did David Unaipon earn such a prestigious place?

Born in 1872 at the Point McLeay Mission (now Raukkan) in South Australia, Unaipon was the fourth of nine children to James Ngunaitponi, a Christian evangelist, and his wife Nymbulda. Both were Yaraldi people from the lower Murray region. The name "Unaipon" is an anglicised version of Ngunaitponi.

From a young age, Unaipon displayed remarkable intelligence. At just seven, he began schooling at the mission, impressing educators with his sharp mind and manners. At 13, he left school to work for Charles Burney Young, a wealthy Adelaide landowner who encouraged Unaipon's passion for science, philosophy, literature and music.

Returning to the mission in 1890, Unaipon continued to expand his knowledge and skills, including bootmaking and playing the organ. He married Katherine Carter in 1902, a Tangani woman from the Coorong.

In 1909, Unaipon invented a shearing handpiece that revolutionised the wool industry. Often dubbed the “Australian Leonardo da Vinci,” he was fascinated by perpetual motion and worked on numerous inventions — from a centrifugal motor to early helicopter concepts inspired by the boomerang.

He was the first published Aboriginal author, sharing Aboriginal legends and writing prolifically on science, culture, and rights. Unaipon travelled widely, lecturing and preaching, calling for equality and respectful cooperation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

As Bruce Pascoe put it, “Unaipon forced Australians to accept Aboriginal intelligence... His legacy paves the way for younger Aboriginal people.” David Unaipon remains a symbol of ingenuity, resilience, and the enduring power of Aboriginal knowledge systems.

On this day in 1928, our first pilot Arthur Affleck and first doctor Dr Kenyon St Vincent Welsh, took flight in 'Victory' – a single engine timber and fabric bi-plane leased from a fledging bush airline, Qantas. 👨‍✈️👨‍⚕️

Together they saved two lives that first flight – travelling around 100km into the outback to do so.

We're still here 97 years later, but we've come a long way. With a fleet of 80 aircraft, we cover more than 27 million km every year, providing care to someone in Australia every two minutes. ✈️

Thank you your support in keeping the Flying Doctor flying and helping us become the organisation we are today! 💙

Tour boats will soon be banned from passing through what naturalist David Attenborough has described as “Australia’s most unusual natural wonder,” a move that has received both applause and criticism from those affected by the upcoming restrictions.
